A little frustrated

So I went to my 35/36 week appointment, today, and I decided I would ask the NP about this horrid inner-leg pain I've been having. The main cord/tendon on the inside fold of my leg is extremely tight, and any movement sends white-hot pain everywhere as a result. My grandma even said, that's not normal, you shouldn't be in that much pain, ask the doctor about it when you go in.

So I go in, explain to the NP that I'm having this horrible pain, and she just kind of shrugs it off and acts like I told her I had the sniffles yesterday, and was making it out to be the flu. I understand aches and pains come with pregnancy, but not shotgun-blast to the groin bouts of pain when you try to scoot out of bed or roll over in the middle of the night. Best part is, it's only getting worse.

On top of that, in a week I went from 0% effaced & 0cm dialated, to 60% effaced and 3cm dialated, and she said I'll probably have this baby early. Well, my boyfriend can't make it out here until the 21st, and I know I can't postpone labor when my body decides it's time, but I'd really like him to be here to help me through it. Not saying I don't have a support group out here when the time -does- come, it's just that he already bought the plane tickets, and unless you want to pay a huge amount of money for said tickets, most of the time they're non-refundable.
I know I'm probably stressing over nothing, but goodness this feels like a mess. And I'm more agitated than anything that the NP brushed me off, because if this leg pain gets any worse (as I'm certain it will) I won't be able to get out of bed in the morning without assistance.
Thanks for reading the mini-rant, here, take some donuts

Re: A little frustrated

  • I have a crippling pain in that same area at times as well. Mine feels like horrendous leg cramp and almost causes my leg to give out. I'm sorry that it wasn't taken seriously but maybe knowing someone else has something similar will ease your mind. ☺️

  • I have those same pains. Moving hurts all moving. Sorry you are having a rough time.
  • Ugh, that sucks... sounds like DSP to me... which is super painful. But I'm no doctor/provider. Hopefully your dilation means nothing and baby comes when your bf gets here.

  • Yeah. My midwife did the same when I told her about my pains. I have the same thing. This is my 4th pregnancy-never once have I been in pain this bad.
It's clearly normal, several of us on here have this. So rest assured. .. it's not just you.

Hopefully you'll walk around until the 21st or 22nd at 3 cm dilated. It is fairly common for that to happen.

  • I'm sorry you're going through this. As if pregnancy isn't uncomfortable enough, added aches and pains are just icing on the cake. FWIW, I walked around for weeks dilated 2-3cm and nearly 90% effaced by the time I had to be induced this time around. I hope baby stays put for you!
  • I'm sorry your NP brushed you off, that's annoying and frustrating. I hope the pain miraculously disappears!

And I hope baby waits for your BF to get into town!

  • Sorry your provider didn't take you more seriously, that sounds really frustrating! Hope you pain calms down and that your LO stays put for a few more weeks!

  • Is this the "lightning crotch" we feel when baby presses on pelvic nerves we never knew we had?  But if it's a muscle, maybe she could refer your to physical therapy to help with some different stretches...?

  • Thanks for all the support ladies~ I just now got a chance to hop on the computer to type out a reply; no way I'm typing this out on fussy phones.

The Nurse Practitioner has a nasty habit of speaking sweetly, but being biased or dismissive in practice. I know she means well, but I didn't know she'd shrug it off. In any case, it sounds like this is fairly common. The magnesium supplements I'm taking seem to help a bit. Granted, it doesn't get rid of it, completely, but my muscles definitely relaxed a good deal.

eleolin8 I don't think it's lightning crotch, that usually stays within my vag and is kind of a sharp jolty pain; this is in the muscles/tendons of the inner-leg, around the top of the inner-thigh, right against the inner-hip.

mikeANDjen448 My boyfriend lives out in Utah, and I live in Ohio. He doesn't have a reschedule-able ticket, and he can't afford just to lose the money he had paid for the ticket itself.

I know just because I'm dilated/effaced doesn't mean I'll be popping out a baby next week, I was just a bit startled there was that much progression in a single week.

  • I'm sorry! I'm going through the same thing and have since week 24. Horrible joint pains and rolling over or sitting up is awful. I work 12 hour shifts in the hospital and have basically been told to sucks it up...I can't afford to go out early either though. They recommended the support belt. The velcro sure didn't stay with all the sweat pouring down within an hour. I must say I've kind of felt my provider kind of lacks the ability to have much sympathy. I get the feeling she's overloaded with patients.

  • I have this same problem. I thought I was the only one and just pinching nerves. It'll switch back and forth between the right and left leg. But it is in the exact same place as you describe.

When I talked to my OB he shrugged it off as well, and said I'm probably experiencing small contractions. Whatever. If you get any information on this please let us know. Good luck <3

The NP said it was "relaxin" that's supposed to slacken the muscles in your abdomen/groin in order to let you uterus expand as baby grows, but it also effects the other muscles in the general hip area. I found that to be strange, because my muscles are tight, not loose!

  • I'm sorry she dismissed your concerns and I hope your LO can wait until your BF gets there.
  • Sorry to hear your provider totally dismissed your concern. I hope the baby waits for your bf arrival.!
  • I have had a lot of pain similar to what you've described, and found that sitting on a yoga ball helps. It doesn't prevent the pain, but what I already have it it'll go away for a bit. Sorry your NP is blowing you off.
