First Ultrasound - Only a Gestational Sac.

Hi!

I had my very first ultrasound today. What I was hoping would be a very happy experience turned really scary really quick. I had my first positive HPT on 12/15. I had blood work done on 12/17. My HCG levels came back at 98. Unfortunately my LMP stated on 10/8, so that isn't the best judge of how far along I am. I am really nervous. The Doctor told me either I am not as far along as they thought or we lost the baby. I had to have blood work done today and then again on Wednesday. I will get today's results tomorrow but will have to wait until Friday for Wedneswday's due to the holiday. I am not really sure what to think right now. Has anyone else ever been through this?

With irregular cycles, it's more likely a case of not being as far along as thought. Good luck, and if your numbers are doubling, it's a good sign! Fingers crossed!

I have irregular cycles myself, and my dates were off by two weeks, so this very well could be your case as well. I'm hoping so!

If you're only 5 weeks you will only see a sac. Might not actually see a baby until more like 7 weeks on the u/s. With my 1st my dates were off by 4 or 5 days and that made a huge difference on the u/s my doc ordered. Lots of worry for nothing. I should have ignored my LMP and gone by what I knew was my O date. When do you go back for more blood work or a recheck?

I also have a long cycle so at my first ultrasound I wasn't as far along as we thought. They just told me that it was too soon to see something and that they could barely see that I was probably only four weeks along. They scheduled another ultrasound for six weeks, and everything was fine. I hope the same holds true for you.

Thank you for all of the support. I am not sure if my period is regular or not. I stopped taking my pills in September, got AF on time in October, and then never again. I spoke to a nurse at the office this afternoon. I had more questions that were not answered this morning. She told me not to sway my feelings either way yet. She promised she would call me with my number for my blood work from today first thing in the morning. I go again Wednesday morning to see if it is rising appropriately. I will not get those results until Friday morning. The nurse I talked to this afternoon made me feel a lot better. She was thinking we conceived around the 10 which would put me a lot less along than we originally though. I really hope I am worrying for nothing.

My period was super irrergular after stopping the pill. =/ For right now you're pregnant!!! Don't worry until the doctor tells you to,.

I had an early u/s with my 1st. We only saw a sac. She's 5 and playing with her new doll right now. A sac might be all you should see right now!~ *hugs*!!

I got a call for my Midwife this morning. My HCG levels were at 10,000 Monday. She said that is what they would look for at about 5 weeks. I still have to get blood drawn Wednesday morning, and she still does not want to sway my hopes either way, but I feel much better knowing I went from 98 to 10,000 in 12 days. Hopefully there will be more good news either Wednesday night or Friday morning. Thank you again for al of the support.

I went to the Dr for spotting shortly after my BFP. They did an ultrasound and only saw the sac, nothing else, no yolk and definitely no baby. I got blood work done the two days later and they doubled. I then had my dating U/S at 8 weeks. I'm 12 weeks today and as of two weeks ago everything was great.

I had a perfect cycle until July of this year when I went to 6 weeks between cycles and then it was 8 weeks. So I had no clue when I conceived. My guess is that you are just earlier than you thought. And in a few weeks you'll see that little nugget.

that happened to me! i was waiting for iui and wasn't charting AT ALL. randomly discovered i was pregnant--- by dates I would have been 7 weeks. US saw an empty sac... just 5 weeks. It was a little worrisome, but seeing that little heartbeat a week later was one of the greatest moments! now we are 10 weeks and going strong! hang in there! you are pregnant until the dr tells you otherwise!

It happened to me, too. I had ovulated almost 2 weeks later than normal so everything looked like there wasn't a baby in there at what should have been my 7 week ultrasound (actually 5 weeks). I'm 13 weeks today with this baby. We've seen the heartbeat and everything since then

That happen to me I found out I was pregnant on Oct 1,2014 but when we went for my ultrasound the baby v was measuring under what we had thought which was 11 weeks but was only measuring 6 weeks then my baby passed away Oct 20,2014 which I named royal but I just found out on Christmas im pregnant again so yay!!!! Hope all goes will just think positive not what could go wrong okay..

My doctor's office finally called back. My HCG levels rose appropriately. Thank goodness! Now we have to wait until Monday to either see Jelly Bean's heartbeat, or at least make sure the gestational sac is growing properly. I know we are not completely out of the woods, and I will feel much better when we do hear the heartbeat, but I have calmed down quite a bit.

Thank you again for the support. This is our first baby and the doctor I saw on Monday was too honest. She could have lied a little, or looked at my HCG levels on 12/17 and put two and two together that the dates may be wrong. Thankfully she is not my doctor.

Im experiancing the same thing. Went today for 6 week transvaginal ultrasound and all they could see was a sac. Im so worried. Scheduled to go back next week. Should i be concerned?

So many women on this site have gone through the same thing including myself. It is so hard not to worry and to listen to people tell you that there could be something wrong or you need to have patience. For the most part it is difficult to see anything via transvaginal before 6 weeks. At best you will normally just see the gestational sac and maybe a fetal pole, but that is normally it.

We had our second ultrasound today. BABY HAS A HEARTBEAT!!!!!Thank you to everyone for the kind works and positive thoughts. I feel so much better. Jelly Bean is due August 27th, 2015. :-)

@Brown1030 , that's really good! Your levels that is! They more then doubled every 48 hours! They almost tripled! If you are only five weeks you will most likely only see a sac. Please don't worry.

@Brown1030, sorry, didn't see your recent post! See!!!!! Everything worked out! So happy for you!!!! We saw the flickering of our babies heartbeat today (at 6w2d). It definitely makes you feel more relieved!
