Working Mom Nausea

I'm starting to struggle at work. The nausea is out of this world crazy at random times of the day,and I'm only 6 1/2 weeks pregnant! I know I still have a lot of this to come and Im Starting to worry....I don't want anyone to know until my 12 week appt. is anybody else experiencing this dizzy, sickening feeling? Either NOTHING sounds good or EVERYTHING sounds good and I'm not sure how to keep my mind off it. Working, where you look forward to a lunch break and usually think about what you'll eat during break etc is exhausting. Do I just need to put on my big girl panties and buck up or does someone have any ideas?

Re: Working Mom Nausea

  • I am in the same boat. When i was pregnant with my twins i didn't work, i couldn't. I'm wondering what i should do i feel awful.

  • Same here. I had a three hour one on one with my boss. There was no way I could make it thru three hours so I ended up having to tell him at 7 weeks. I also told my assistant because she has had to rearrange my schedule almost every day to accommodate my need for insane amounts of sleep. I'll wait till my second trimester to tell everyone else.

Been struggling myself as well.. Had to tell my boss at 5weeks 5 days because I am already so sick. Have already had to go home early one day... I work very long hours and with the indigestion, nausea and absolute exhaustion- it has been absolute hell... Just thinking about my next work day stresses me out because I don't know how I'll make it :/
  • I bought Sea Bands - about $10 at CVS - and they've really helped with my all-day nausea and have enabled me to keep working instead of staying huddled under the covers most of the day. :) Highly recommend!
  • Same boat here! I had to tell my boss last week at 6 weeks because it was so obvious I was physically miserable. I have tried every trick in the book and nothing works for more than an hour for me...plus, I'm exhausted and am ready to curl up by 1pm lol. Getting through till the evening is rough! I'm trying to suck it up, but I hear ya - it's a challenge! You're not alone! Definitely try eating small meals and snacks throughout the day, even when you feel like you can't. Keeping your blood sugar level and your energy up might help - it has for me, to a degree.

  • Trust me I know, I'm in the same boat I work 630am to 6pm with a 45 min commute each way :/ I'm EXHAUSTED, grumpy, moody and I deal with people allllll day... The struggle is real I know if there is a remedy I am all ears bc I am miserable :( only 8 weeks...
  • I'm usually okay in the morning, bit once 11am hits it's game over. It helps if I get up and walk around so finally I had to tell my boss yesterday so he didn't think I was off messing around all the time instead of working in the afternoons.
  • I was using sea-bands and then when I went in for my first prenatal appt and I was telling her about the intense nausea on and off all day and that I had lost weight bc I had no appetite, she said she could prescribe me something. I've been taking it for 2 days and I've had no nausea and I have an appetite. I take 1 pill every 6 hours. I don't take it at night bc that was never really an issue before. I suggest asking your doctor or CNM if they can prescribe something.
  • I'm in the same boat, most days I'm nauseous all day and completely exhausted. I had to snack all day yesterday or I thought I was going to throw up! Sea bands have helped me some, but other days not much. I am still debating if I will tell my boss after my 1st appointment at 8 w 4d, or wait until 12 weeks.
  • Zofran = new woman!!

I was never big on taking meds, and I don't give 2 shits about my job (I work 2 days/week in grocery retail for "mommy money," so it's easy to suck it up and fudge my way through a shift), but I was having a hard time caring for my son with the nausea/vomiting (let alone the fatigue!). I just wanted to crawl in a hole! Obviously, this wasn't going to work, so my OB wrote me a zofran rx. It was life changing! I only take it on the days I'm actively throwing up, and it has worked wonders. I'm still tired and lazy, but my DS doesn't seem to mind that!
  • Just wanted to chime in that you're not alone!  Eating more or less constantly has helped me.  It's crazy.  I basically have to plan my work day around how and when I can obtain food.  I've also been using an earlier suggestion I saw on this board to eat jolly ranchers between meals and on the train.  That seems to help a little.  The busier I am at work the better I tend to feel.  I think it helps take my mind off the nausea and keeps me awake.  I'm trying not to tell anyone until 2nd tri.  It doesn't help a girl at work who is just a few weeks farther along than I am just announced her pregnancy and said how great she feels.  I'm happy for her, but I was secretly wondering how long I had to sit with a smile pasted on my face saying congratulations before I could run for the bathroom.
  • I'm with you all and I have Hyperemesis. I spend all day worried about getting through meetings and making sure a trash is near by (God Forbid). I had HG my last pregnancy too and could keep nothing down. This time, I am eating almost constantly - even though I gag and some of it I see again :( it's hard being a working mommy through this. Almost depressing. I too will not share the news at work until 12 weeks.
  • I work fast food and the struggle is terrible smells and everything making me sick I have not been able to eat anything for 3 days without getting sick. So I'm in the same boat. Bout to go get a shot or something to at least help me subside some of the nausea so I can eat
  • Same here bought sea bands and preggie pop drops off the iherb.com website, was super cheap and they both have been working! My last pregnancy I had no symptoms not so lucky this time.
  • I told my boss today at 9w1d. I've had to call out sick due to vomiting once, and a 2-day ocular migraine this week. I cannot wait to feel better soon! I've been trying to eat small meals and drink cold things.
  • I just got zofran also. It's been a lifesaver. I couldn't even function at work.
  • Same here. Zofran didn't work with my first and I had severe MS. I had to work then and I have to work now. I got through it with my son which I didn't think was possible. So, I'll have to stick it out yet again!

  • I am 8w4d and I am nauseous 90 percent of the time. I am self- employed and struggling with getting anything done. I lack focus. I eat all the time and it only helps for a brief period. I am 39 and this is my first pregnancy so I afraid to take anything. But this baby is a blessing and worth whatever happens. I have read that the nausea goes away after the first trimester. Hopefully it will pass for you. You defiantly should let your boss know so that they will be more sympathetic with your situation. This will pass. Happy New Year!!
  • I've been getting awful night sickness. I have noticed if I don't eat fairly regularly that it gets worse. I have definitely had to pull over on my way home from work to puke. As my work day winds down, I struggle more. Probably because I'm paying morr attention to getting home than to what my body is telling me I need. I have a prescription for onadastrone. It works like magic, I just had to get over the initial taste of it which took a while!

  • My co-workers breath. I smell them all. I had to apologize to one of them cause I couldn't talk to her anymore without gagging. Don't think I can hide it from them much longer.
  • I am in the same boat
  • I have had it worse this time than last. I find that I instantly feel better if I pop a couple nuts and dried fruit from my trail mix stash. So sorry for the lady with HG! It's awful!
  • Such a relief to see this!! I'm going to have to tell my boss at 8.5 weeks. Zofran helps minimally. Life Savers (candy) seems to work wonders but if any smell wafts in my general direction: wham!!!
  • I told my boss at 5 weeks. I work in a hospital lab so it's a lot of gross stuff to see in a day. The worst are the people that smell like cigarette smoke; I'm getting tired of smelling everything! My nausea is 24/7, but sometimes chocolate, and staying busy, helps. My coworkers rock, so if I need a bathroom break or to sit for a few minutes, they'll willingly pick up my slack.
