IVF Questions

I know that I am jumping the gun a little bit but I'm sort of a Type A, OCD planner. With the chance that one of our only options is IVF I want to have a good idea of what I am getting myself into so I don't feel so overwhelmed if that is what the RE comes back at me with.

IVF books? (Any worth reading?)

Payment Help? I want to say I saw something on Pinterest (I know totally reliable source) about Grants or financial assistance?

Anyone have any idea about whether its common to use intermittent FMLA while going through IVF? My boss posed the thought to me today and it had never crossed my mind.

Any other info that would be good for me to read and look into? I know only the basics on IVF from the few bloggers I have followed as well as my medical background

There was a woman in my IVF orientation who took leave from work for her IVF cycles (we stayed in touch, it took her four cycles and she took leave for all of them). Her issue was that she was required to travel three days a week for work, so there would be no way for her be around for monitoring if she were working. I'm not sure if she took FMLA or just vacation or unpaid leave - but she did have a situation that required her to be off from work for her entire cycle from the time she started stimming and she had to work that into her planning for each cycle.

But if you don't have an extenuating situation like travel for work or extremely early work hours that would prevent you from early day monitoring (or the place where you are monitoring is so far away that you wouldn't be able to get to work on time afterwards), you should probably not need to take leave.

Do you need to travel for IVF? My office has monitoring from 6-7:30 and I've only missed two and a half days of work total for 3 cycles (2 retrievals and an FET).

Any tips for receiving any type of financial assistance to aid in IVF costs?

I'd also look into programs through your RE's office. My office is part of the Attain IVF program which offers multiple treatments at a discounted rate and also a program that offers a refund of the cost if you don't get your take home baby. These programs have eligiblity requirments, but it's someting to look into to see if it's offered in your area.

I applied to several programs for IVF medication discounts. Some of them are based off household income.

The programs are:

EMD SERONO COMPASSIONATE CARE, First Steps, and Shared Help program.

They're definitely worth a try. Also, if you're a veteran (discharged from the military), then you automatically qualify for 25% off thorugh First Steps. I've been researching like a crazy! Just started the process, so let me know if there's any info you need help with!!! BOL!!

I would have a 40 minute each way trip for monitoring and about 1.5 hours for retrievals and IVFs. My job is only 3 days a week but 12 hour shifts that start at 7 am. So there is a chance I could make it work if my boss would just cooperate.
