Baby lunch date - WWYD?

So, my DH has today off and offered to bring LO to visit me at work and go out to lunch. I was super excited at this idea because I work about an hour from home, without traffic, so I never get to bring LO into work to show her off or participate in after work family events like pumpkin carving or secret Santa. Also, since I take the train in the idea was I'd leave early with them after lunch because whatever, it's New Year's Eve.
Here's my problem. On Monday I noticed a bump on LOs bottom that worried me, I decided to stay home yesterday to take her to the doctor. It's an abscess and they gave me antibiotics for her- she's happy as a clam so all good. My issue is that I had to miss work yesterday so now I feel guilty leaving early, and it doesn't make sense for them to drive in and me to not go home with them.
I'm currently working with a team that includes 3 other guys- all of them took no additional vacation days last week or this week (single dudes) while I have taken a few.
So.....WWYD?

Cancel lunch plans and stay at work a full day- will be able to put in a solid days work for my team but miss out on a rare chance to bring the baby in

Keep the lunch date and leave early anyways- get to show off the LO and who cares, half the office is out today anyways

  • Thanks ladies, obviously that's what I want to do but I want to make sure I'm not hurting myself in the eyes of my teammates.

I just don't want them to think of me a the weak link in the team or anything.

This past year was an ok year but not a huge push for my career, just no amazing projects, so this new team is a chance to try and make a good jump in status in my office if I prove myself but I can always start that on Monday right?!!!?

    @kamakaziartist‌ I didn't think to add a ss option!

We all share tasks so no, I'm not holding anybody up, Just reality is they will have completed a lot more work than me these past two weeks.

Also the project overall has a tight schedule, but no specific deadline this week.

ETA: @LJGS1010‌ agreed, but I always feel guilty about not being there when other team members are, and the perception is often just as important.

I think I'm gonna feel it out for a few hours
  • SS- I voted bring LO up for lunch, but I would stay the whole day at work if everyone else is too. Just do your normal day, with a small LO interruption.

I'm a big proponent of working smart, not hard.

Do you get all of your work done on time, and to the expected standards? If so, a few days out shouldn't make a difference in how you're viewed at work.

    Exactly this.
  • See I agree with @LJGS1010 that it is important to take your personal, SICK, and vacation days. Its part of your compensation and it truly does make for a better employee to be well rounded, healthy and happy.

I also get where @kamakaziartist is coming from as well since I obviously feel guiltly which is why i made this poll.

But, in this case my teammates aren't doing 'my work', i'll get my work done, the sharing of tasks on the project is pretty fluid and there is alot to do, so its more a matter of perception that i'm not in the office or getting as much done, not really about anyone else having to pick up my slack.
