multiple trigger shots?

Had a follicle scan yesterday and scheduled the IUI for Wednesday morning. They had me trigger w 10,000 yesterday afternoon, and I am to trigger four more times 2,500mg every other day starting Wednesday after the IUI. They are hoping that the shots will help lengthen my LP since the clomid and progesterone aren't doing it on their own.
Have any of you ever heard of doing multiple shots?

Sorry Im still kinda new to all the different RE methods

Re: multiple trigger shots?

  • I have heard of protocols that include additional HCG after the trigger, but I don't know much about them.  Very helpful, I know. :)

  • Yea, I thought this was more common with IVF cycles, but I've only ever done 1 trigger per cycle. I don't think there is any harm in it, just a little bit of a boost. Good luck.

all AL welcome. TTC #2 for 43 44 months.

  • It makes sense, because hCG being produced triggers the corpus luteum to increase progesterone production.  If it detects hCG, it will think you're pregnant and produce higher levels of progesterone to lengthen the LP.  Makes sense on paper, but like any of this infertility shit it might work differently for whatever the hell reason.

Good luck!  I have heard of it being done before, and succeeding.  :)

  • Yes, like sailorgal said, it is typically called HCG boosters since the additional HCG is not to trigger ovulation.  fuzzbumble gave a very good explanation for it.  I will say that it can really play with your head, though.  You cannot test in the same manner you would typically test because you are injecting additional HCG into your blood after the trigger and will consequently show it in blood tests and with HPTs longer.

Good luck!  I hope this is the trick you need!
