Growth Spurt?

For those that may know.. is it typically a growth spurt when a baby gets up more/drinks more? Is 6 weeks a common time for one?
Zoe usually gives us roughly 7 hours of sleep overnight (give or take- 10 to 5am maybe) and last night she was up around midnight, 2 and then 4. Clearly, she's still a newborn and her sleep will be all over for awhile- so I'm not really talking about that. I expect that. But each time she got up, she wanted increased formula. She's been doing, on average, 3 ounces per bottle.  And I did some extra feedings overnight and she cried a bit after each.. sticking her fist in her mouth, so I assumed she was still hungry.  Made up an extra ounce (so 4 total) and she gobbled it like she hadn't just eaten!  And she did 4 ounces the next feeding, too (which she's usually asleep during!).

Is that a growth spurt? (I figure you'll all tell me better than goggle)

  • Ok, thanks guys :) That's what I was assuming. I just wasn't aware of the typical time frames of them.  She was like a bottomless pit overnight!

  • Yup- growth spurt! Just when you adjust they do this to us! Lol! Good luck! Try taking a nap today :)
  • 6 weeks isn't just a growth spurt, it is THE growth spurt.
  • The 6 week growth spurt sucks! DD2 was attached to me constantly during that growth spurt.

  • Yup 6 weeks is definitely about the time for the clinging and crying to increase.  BFing was still working for us about then and I'm pretty sure I was just topless like 24/7 at home because if she wasn't latching for one of a billion different reasons, she had to be cuddled up against my skin...

Good luck and I hope she starts sleeping better again for you.

  • I don't know much about growth spurt timing, I am just still in awe that you have a 6 week old that has slept for 7 hour stretches already. That is CRAZY to me. Man I hope this baby is like that! I still remember the first time my son gave us a 5 hour stretch, he was 8 weeks old, and it was a fluke. Didn't happen again for another month or so. He started sleeping like a champ at about 6 months, but 6 weeks, holy cow!!
