Convertible car seat for a tall & sweaty baby

My LO is quickly outgrowing her Chicco Keyfit so we are starting to look for a new convertible car seat. LO is on the taller side (90th percentile at 6 months) and sweats like crazy. Her back and head are soaked after 15 minutes in her Keyfit. I am looking for a seat that will last for awhile and keep her cool. Any recommendations? TIA

Re: Convertible car seat for a tall & sweaty baby

  • We love our Diono Radian R100.  It's super tall, will last until they can use it as a booster without the harness.  It's narrow as far as fitting into your car, but also gives the kids a fair amount of room while still keeping them snug.  We love it for our 2.5 year old and will likely get a second one when the convertible we already had (Evenflo Symphony 65) kicks the bucket.  The evenflo feels more like a bucket, it's hard to get him into it without hitting his head on the car door (that may be my clutsiness) and definitely gets him sweaty.  I have noticed far less sweat in the Diono.

  • So...I have been chatting with a lady from "Car Seat for the Littles" and she recommended the Graco MySize Convertible Seat.

    Here is our conversation...

Me: My Daughter is quickly outgrowing her Chicco Keyfit 30 so we are starting to look for a new convertible car seat. LO is on the taller side (90th percentile at 6 months) and sweats like crazy. Her back and head are soaked after 15 minutes in her Keyfit. I am looking for a seat that will last for awhile and keep her cool. The seat will go in my Nissan Murano and occasionally in my husband's F150. Do you have any recommendations?

CSFL: Did you have a budget in mind? ~Jenn

Me: I don't want to spend much more than $200. Less is always better but I don't want to compromise on safety or comfort.

CSFL: I would maybe check out the My Size seats

Me: I have also heard good things about Diono...what are your thoughts on those?CSFL: They aren't as user friendly as the ones suggested above, but they are nice for air circulation.Any thoughts? Didn't Graco just have a huge recall on car seats?

    • We just purchased a Graco Headwise 70 for Black Friday on Amazon. LO is only 75th percentile for height but was on the highest shoulder strap setting at 5 months. We figured he would need something with a high shoulder height, and Graco had the highest at the best price on CSFTL. I personally love it and think he at least looks comfy...though I'm not sure about sweaty since it's winter :/

    • @amandag225 Gracos recall was to change the buckle. It was getting stuck when kids would eat in the car and food would fall into the buckle. This is no reason to shy away from Graco seats. People made mountains out of a mole hill by doing 0 research on the actual issue.

Absolutely love DS's Diono Radian RXT.  It fits great in my small car with the angle adjuster you have to buy separately for $10.  I read Diono's could be difficult to install but it was really a breeze to install this seat in my car.

    • My son was 95% for height at 6m (he is now 7m) and is pretty much done w Chicco30 soooo we are looking at Britax or Rocaro ...but haven't made up our mind yet.
    • New Britax is super user friendly that's why we are thinking we may go with that one
