Chewing on Melissa and Doug toys

DS received a few melissa and Doug painted wood animals/cars. He loves them so much but occasionally chews on them. Is this bad? Can the paint hurt him? The packaging said 12 months and the other 18 months

    DS2 chews on everything including the toys. Definitely not worried, but as PP said, is only be concerned with the choking hazards posed by them.
