Woke up with low milk

I exclusively BF my baby and pump and daddy feeds baby bottle 2 to 3 times a day so he can bond with her, but today I woke up and seams like I didn't produce milk. Baby cries because bothing is coming out. I pumped early today like normally do and I usually get 8 to
12oz. Today I only 2oz from both breasts. Has this ever happened to anyone? Does this mean my breasts are drying out?

Re: Woke up with low milk

  • Same as PP stated this will happen to me if I didn't drink enough water or ate poorly.

  • Thank you ladies!! I drink plenty of water and eat good. Going to drink more water and eat more see if that helps and try very very very hard not to stress about it.
  • @kbmama‌ wow didn't know that could happen. I got my period last month
Just hate it that I don't have enough supply to feed my baby girl. It breaks my heart
  • EPer here! I keep a close eye on my supply because I am an under supplier due to medical issues, and working hard, still, to build and maintain my supply. Has your period come back yet? You can definitely see a decrease when that happens. If that's the reason, it'll probably even out in a few days. When your husband gives your LO those bottles, do you make up for not nursing by pumping later? If you're not expelling milk during those times, it may be signaling your body not to produce that milk anymore. You can try adding in an additional pumping session somewhere in the day to make up for it. You can also try power pumping if you have time (either completely empty, rest 10 minutes, pump 10, rest 10, pump 10 OR pump for a couple minutes routinely here and there, especially works well if you have a manual pump you can just leave out.) This will simulate cluster feeding even if your LO is not cluster feeding right now, and will signal your body to keep producing more milk. You may want to keep a close eye on your diet and make sure you're taking in enough calories.

  • If you use a Medela PISA pump, replace the white membranes.  Even if the ones you have look fine, there could be micro tears in them, causing them to not work effectively.  Change them out once a month or whenever you notice a big supply drop.  It could be the pump, not you.  :)
