Mixed feelings about putting "baby stuff" away.

With the influx of So.Many.Toys for Christmas I guess it's time to start putting away some of the toys and gadgets she's outgrown. I'm keeping a few of the favorites handy so that I can rotate, but the majority of the stuff will get packed away in the attic until the next one comes along.

The thing I'm having the hardest time with is taking the swing apart. I've had a love hate with this swing for so long! It was the only way she'd nap for almost 7 months! Now it's been about a month since I've relied on it for naps. I still use the vibrating seat (it detaches from the swing frame) and I'll probably keep that out for a while longer. But why am I having such a hard time putting the swing away?? I feel so silly. But it's taking up so much room, and I guess it's time.

Sorry, this probably belongs in the random thread. Anyone else packing stuff away and getting all weird about it?

  • I cried the other day packing up clothes. I couldn't believe he was ever that small. Not sure why though, I love him at this age so far the best

  • The clothes get me too!

  • The little socks!

I also found a NB sized diaper behind her dresser and I can't believe she was ever that little.

  • I feel glad putting stuff away. Even better getting rid of it.

But perhaps I've accepted were Oad. We are keeping 90% of it in case we change our minds. I have taken the clothes I loved on ds and will turn them into a quilt. So I don't have to say good bye.
  • He's our one & only and I'm horribly sentimental.  What's helped me is having special people to pass things on to.  My cousin had a son a few months after me and my niece is pregnant now.  Otherwise, I'd probably keep everything!

  • We are planning to be officially done having our own at this point, so I am having a REALLY hard time with putting things away.  I know it's the right decision for us (if we have any more we will adopt a little girl in 3-5 years), but it doesn't make it any less sad when I put away those little clothes!  I think we are about ready to move to a convertible car seat and put away the jumperoo too.  Sad! :-(

  • I hate retiring favorite outfits and seeing the tiny clothes never to be worn again. We are probably one and done so I don't need to save any of it, but I put aside the Greatest Hits (aka favorite or noteworthy outfits). The only way I can console myself is by buying new clothes in the new larger size.

  • I should be sentimental since she is our last...but for the most part I'm not when it comes to"stuff". I'm saving some fave outfits and a few NB diapers (for those she was THAT small??? moments), but I just resold $50 worth of her clothes last night and I'm feeling good about it. Glad to see them go to use and glad to get some garage space back.

I did have a hard time chucking the swing though (it died on us, but got us through some rough times with both kids). Will probably have a hard time selling DSs crib next year before our move, too. I can't believe he's about to go into a big kid bed. We're planning on a tag sale before we movenext year, and a lot of squish stuff will be sold there. That will be an emotional day.

  • Oh man, I still depend on the swing for naps. I plan on taking that baby to the 25 lb limit.
