Dogs while pregnant

Does anyone else have dogs that will just not leave their side? I have a lab and dachshund and they do not let me out of there sight. I'm 39 weeks and my dachshund will lay with me in bed for hours no matter what! Can they really sense something that clear?

  • My female pitbull loves sleeping with her head on my belly. She is my little shadow!

  • My female shitzu-bichon is the same. Ever single time I go pee she follows me and lies down on my feet. She followed me around lots before but now she HAS to be touching me at all times. She's so sweet, I love it :)
  • My dog is definitely my shadow, and if I leave the house she will wait outside in the dark by the fence for me to get home. It's sort of creepy, sort of endearing. I can't wait for her to turn her attention on our baby ;-)

  • My cocker spaniel has been super cuddly lately. H says that it's because he can sense something.

  • My pointer/ pit mix has been my shadow too. He has been under my feet nonstop. But this is a pic of my pup with my 1 1/2 yo niece from when they visited over Christmas. It was such a relief to see them play nicely together! They chased each other around the entire time they were visiting.
  • Yep, my pup will not leave my side either.
  • Not my dogs, but they are old and in their own world anyway.
After 8 yrs of ttc little one is due Jan. 28

Big brother is excited to meet this little one!

  • My cats were all around me too with this pregnancy and my first one. We brought DS home and they looked at him and didn't really care about him after that.
If he cried my Daisy would come in a meow but my Maggie had this look of um how long is it going to be here.
They did enjoy laying on the quilts on the floor during tummy time with him. But they never got too close.
  • My 90 lb German short haired pointer is my shadow. I was laying in bed the other day and his head was on my belly. The baby gave him a couple swift kicks to the head and it startled him, he jumped up and his head started to twist in confusion. (Way to funny). I told him it was ok and to lay down , he then licked my belly a bunch of times and then settled back Down. It was super cute, but I can't go anywhere without him. She lays on the bath mat while in the shower, toilet. Has to be touching me at all times. I love him but it is annoying. My other dog, a German Shepard is clingy but not as bad.

Both of my cats will not leave my side right now. My male cat usually loves my husband and will only lay with him but lately he is all over me all the time and won't stop talking to me!!! It is such a sweet time with them. Enjoy it! Give them lots of love!

My cats are obsessed with me too. It's very flattering but I'm really curious about what is going to happen once monster is born. I think the one will still try to cuddle and get all freaked out when there's a baby in my lap!
I know right?! I am really wondering what they are going to do too. I am thinking that I will have to close them out of the bedroom at night which is going to break my heart :(

Me three. We have 2 cats and a dog (lab). Our cats are not going to be happy when they can't sleep with us. My dog has always been cuddly, so he is just his usual. I will say that right before we found out I was pregnant, he stood in front of me and stared for a solid 5 minutes. It was weird, but I think he knew before we did.

  • My cat has recently been all over me. My dogs seem oblivious.

    Dec '12 & Jan '15
I could hold you for a million years to make you feel my love.
  • @mandikins27‌ that is funny/creepy.

My cat is as loving as she's always been, but getting older. I'm afraid she's not going to adjust as well this time. She's all over me though. I've heard dogs have that instinct though. A friend of mine came down with HELLP and her dog was acting really strange/protective that day.
  • My dog is my shadow, also. She will even sit by my feet while I go to the bathroom. If I close the door, she'll whine and scratch to be let in.

  • My MIL's dog is oblivious to what's going on with me (not that smart, nor is he my dog) but I'd wager some money that when LO is here he will be with her constantly. He loves kids and so protective of babies. He's a rescue pikanese (spelling?). My cat, though, has to be on me all night and I am hoping DH will let her sleep with him when LO is here and we cosleep (not bed share though). We'll see.

  • One of my two dogs just recently started to get clingy to me.  I wonder if she knows somethings up...

  • my S.O.'s dog will NOT leave my side when we are home and listens to me better than Nick at this point. He always wants to sit on my lap or be touching me in some way. its crazy lol

  • My dog has always been a cuddler, but actually lately he's been sitting on the floor instead of on the couch with us. He seems down. I think he's depressed since all the baby stuff got set up. I feel really bad for him. He's still as sweet as ever, just seems down. Poor thing.
  • My cat is referred to as a "mama's boy". He's always followed me around, but lately he's been more clingy. He's been really cute and cuddly. We had a friend over last night who commented "This is the calmest I've seen your cat, ever."
@4littlebears  I have the same fear with my cat. He's going to be 11 in February, and I'm wondering if he's too stuck in his "only furbaby" ways to accept my attention on someone else. It took him years to warm up to DH before he realized he wasn't going anywhere.

  • @raveness, she's been really wonderful when we brought home our other 3 kids. But she's 10 now and been marking one of our cushy chairs in the basement just since this fall, and we had to permanently shut one of the doors to the bedrooms in the basement because we found she went in there. I'm really afraid she's going down hill. We've never had this problem with her before, but we did with our old cat and we couldn't keep her anymore because she was leaving BM's all over the basement and dd1 at the time was crawling. I just couldn't risk dd1 finding it and putting it in her mouth or something.

She's really good with kids normally, but there was a couple weeks ago when she bit dd1's eyelid! (dd1 was really getting in her face, but still...) That's the only time she's ever done anything like that before. I've got my eye on her though.

  • @4littlebears   :(( That just breaks my heart. It sucks having to deal with all that on top of pregnancy and LO's.
My kitty has had his bouts here and there. Most recently, peeing on a very nice air mattress one foot to the left of his litter box because he didn't like the litter. My problem is, he's always been a lone cat. When I rescued a kitten (from under a port-o-potty at an off leash dog park!), he beat the crap out of that little guy until I found him a new home. When I had to stay with my parents for a short amount of time (years ago) he beat up my mom's pit bull. Boo (my kitty) gets jealous very easily and I don't want him to take it out on the baby.

  • We have 2 big dogs. Both very sucky by nature (a golden retriever and a Bernese mountain dog), both seem to be equally sucky since I've been preggo. Only thing I worry about is we rescued the golden a couple of years ago who was given up because the family had a baby and no longer had time for her. I worry all the baby stuff is giving her a little anxiety, but we won't be giving them away once baby comes, so I'm hoping she doesn't take it too hard when he arrives!

Oh no! I hope he adjusts well then. Maybe he'll be different with a little human than he is with other animals. My kitty hates other cats. I fostered a pair of kittens for a couple days and you would have thought ww3 was in my house. She does better with dogs, but she still makes sure they know this is HER territory. We don't dare get any other animals while we still have her.
  • @4littlebears‌ sorry to hear your kitty is acting up. I hope it's only a temporary thing. My cat that stayed with my mom got progressively worse with his spraying in his last years. He had hyperthyroidism that we decided not to treat, I think that's what caused it. We had to say bye to him last spring when he lost too much weight and wouldn't eat. He was 13. Love pets but damn the end is always so tough. ... To add to my previous post though my cat has recently started giving me kisses, which she's never done before. Don't know why she's so affectionate or maybe she likes the taste of my lotion suddenly or thinks I am not hygienic enough.

  • Thanks @marvan5, I'm just praying it's a temporary problem. She's always been such a good cat in the past. I probably should take her to the vet to get her checked out, but it's so expensive. If I don't have a clear reason to bring her in, I hate to have to spend so much money and find out it's all behavioral (we went through this too with our old cat)  How sweet your cat is giving kisses! Our old cat used to LOVE to give kisses, it was so sweet!
  • I know there are sprays you can buy at pet supply stores that may or may not work to discourage spraying, we never had much luck with them though with any of our cats. Also it may be a new cat in the neighborhood that is causing it. You might try blocking windows so your cat doesn't feel so territorial. It's such a hard thing to live with, good luck!

  • When I found out I was pregnant my chihuahua began laying next to me more than often then she began vommiting everywhere all the time and would barely eat a thing for about a month. I was blessed with no morning sickness during the pregnancy. It's as though she took it from me. Sounds nuts but it happened. I owe her a big thank you!:)
