Your LO's worst gift

Maybe not "worst," but what is your least favorite of the gifts your LO received this Christmas? Gifts you will probably return or store in the closet for a while.

DS got 3 more dump trucks. He already has 3 at home, for which we didn't have room.

  • My sil got him an art kit for ages 5+. I told her he sucks with crayons so like those invisible markers would have been cool or washable paint. This has sharp colored pencils, crayons, real markers, watercolors. This one will go back and I'll buy him that stuff maybe when he's 5 lol.

  • DH got her a toy piano, I wanted to get her one that's just a piano. He got her one that has all these electronic options and a demo song (ABC) that she just plays over and over instead of playing the damned piano. I think we are going to return it for a toy piano that's really just a piano.

  • Mil and FIL got dd a baby alive doll that creeps the bajeezus out of me...they are forcing dolls and babies on her it's driving me nuts. They also know that she has like 6 at home and doesn't need another one. They also got her a cleaning kit with a broom, hand vacuum and dust that all talk super obnoxiously... Thanks..

Dude. We had to hVe a talk with family about not shoving brooms and babies and everything pink down B's throat.

The most annoying gift is a Doc McStuffins radio that plays the same 30 second songs over and over...

  • We've actually got a few snide comments because I got DS a kitchen, grill, chefs outfit, broom and dustpan. He also has loads of trucks and balls and tools , and h got him a ride on truck and work bench for his bday - wth do people care what toys kids play with? When I pick him up from daycare sometimes he's playing with dolls or something. He's just under 2 and wants to play - nothing wrong with him exploring everything!!

  • Funny because it was our gift to DS. We got him a CAT train set from Costco. It came with a track and had little CAT construction machines on one of the train cars. I thought he'd love it and he does but it's for 5+.The problem is trains is impossible to get on the tracks so we have to do it for him, plus it makes a loud annoying sound and is huge. I need to follow my own suggestion that I give to others who want to buy gifts for DS and that is to stick to the age recommendation the toy says!

We still have to do Christmas with the ILs, but so far it has been things with lots of little pieces that are too old for her- more for 3 year olds+.

Oh and my MIL (and I do like her), loves to buy clothes up a size or 2, so then I get to store them for 2 years.  I have the room and hate shopping/ exchanging things, but dude why do I need things in size 4T?
Well, my MIL always buys things on clearance that are the size M currently wears, at the end of the season.  So she wears it about once and then it's too hot or whatever and then too small.  This year I sent an email saying "we have what we need for THIS year, please buy for NEXT year" and sent too big sizes.  She's always trying to buy coats and snow boots and things for Christmas, but it gets cold in September and often snows in November and December.  Drives me crazy.  So buying too big isn't all bad.
  • It wasn't too terrible, just everything has so many pieces. MIL actually did awesome for me for once, lol--money. She has a tendency to send random crap that she picks up who knows where, so it was nice not to have the extra this time. :-)

  • We wanted one of those clocks that changes colors when it's okay for them to wake up but it's so bright. It lights up her whole room before the "alarm" color changes. It's a good gift but I think I need to paint over where the light shines to dull it.

@chillbeansm0mI don't think we're going to use it, I hate how bright it lights up even on the low setting. I wish there was a way that it was dark until the "alarm" light goes on. Maybe I'm missing something but DD doesn't need a nightlight and I don't want her to have one unless she starts asking for a light.

If you already use a nightlight I'm sure this would be great but DD sleeps in a dark room.
  • I like everything we got but we just have too much! I can not figure out for the life of me where we are going to put it all. Between the train table, basketball hoop, personal trampoline, roller coaster, 20 big trucks, and everything else our tiny house is busting at the seems! Plus in about 6 months we will have to try and find room for baby number 2. This mama may be feeling a little overwhelmed!

  • @ambmama - People can be so weird! My brother is a chef so he was over the moon that we got DS a kitchen.

To answer the original question, I think LO's worst gift was the tablet my mom gave him. I don't want to sound ungrateful but we asked her about 7 times NOT to get him a tablet. I guess it makes sense because he plays apps on my iPad that I use for work so it's probably better that he has his own so there's less chance of him breaking mine but I just think he's so young. I wanted him to have more "old school" toys and less technology. I guess I'm more upset with the fact that she did something that we specifically asked her multiple times not to do.

My best friends mom means really well but she usually hits up the dollar store and buys a lot of cheap crap. She actually bought her the same light up dog she bought her last year that she never played with--think I'll be donating it to the church nursery.

My ILs are obsessed with getting camo crap. I get that you guys are outdoorsy and DH is a hunter but that doesn't mean DD needs to be too. Nothing against camo but I HATE pink camo anything, think it looks super tacky. They got her this pink woodland camo Cabela's sweat suit and it is heideous. I asked if it was pjs and my MIL was like "no". Definitely will never be worn in public.

  • @ohiodoxiemama08 - oh my.  I really hate getting cheap crap you'll never use.  It's just a waste of resources, probably made by some poor child slave somewhere, and crowds up our landfills.  I'd honestly rather get some home baked cookies or a freaking hug or something.
