i have read rage is not safe to shower in the hospital after birth. That is better to wait to get home and shower. What is your opinion?

You are for sure going to want to shower at the hospital. Bring flip flops...you'll be fine...

I showered twice at the hospital post-delivery. For sure, I didn't want to wait until we got home to clean up, lol.

That first shower feels incredible! It will be on your mind from the second you get to the recovery room. I showered after my second when the water wasn't even hot, that's how badly I wanted one! If you are weirded out, bring all your own toiletries and wear flip flops.

Yeah, I'd rather the hospital use their heavy duty cleaners to clean all the blood out of their shower then have to do it myself at home.

I showered at the hospital every day. I would recommend bringing a robe. The towels at my hospital were tiny and rough.

While I am a FTM i have had 4 surgeries that have all required over night stays in the the hospitals. The second that the doctor told me I could shower... I showered, I can understand wanting to bring flip flops for the shower but I cant imagine it being unclean... or dangerous...

Agreed with all! I had a c-section and was in the hospital 4 days! As soon as possible I was asking for a shower. It makes you feel human again. I felt nasty until I got my shower. I even sat in the jacuzzi tub while in labor. The jets felt amazing on my stomach and helped take away labor pains.

Why would it not be safe to shower in the hospital? Take a shower. You will want one. At my hospital, they had me take a shower before I left the delivery room to go upstairs to the maternity ward.

Yes you will want to shower for sure! Just take a little advice from me. Make sure the hot water is working! When I went to take my first shower I got all undressed (blood dripping everywhere) climbed in only to realize the water was still not hot. Messed with the handles some. Finally got dressed (in my bloody gown) and had to call a repairman to fix the hot water. Finally got a shower later that night!

Agree with bring flip flops if your worried.

I can't for the life of me imagine why you wouldn't want to shower ASAP. I kind of want to shower thinking about being post-partum.

We have showers in our room after delivery... I took like 4 showers... Helped with the pain of those contractions after delivery.

Yup, it feels glorious and you will feel disgusting. I second @Schnurette, it was encouraged. Definitely flip flops and your own toiletries to help you feel like yourself again. You'll likely have visitors and there will be pics!

I think most hospitals will require you to take a shower before you move from delivery suite to maternity ward, just for health and safety reasons as you will be covered in blood and whatever else. I mean they require you to wash your hands with sanitiser when moving from one room to the next. I hope I haven't offended you by saying the above, it's just because most and hopefully all hospitals are so sterile these days and have strict rules on cleanliness and well being of patients. Also, I'm at FTM here but I think it will be your natural instinct to want to take a nice relaxing shower to wash away the hard hours of labour.

I gave birth to our son after 11pm and was in the shower by 7am the next morning. Sure they "rinse" you off down there right afterwards, but it's not nearly enough. Also showered the following day, even though we went home later that afternoon. That hot shower will feel great on all your aching muscles (seriously, every muscle in my body was sore), and will help you wake up to take care of your new little one! I agree with the flip flops. Otherwise, I had no concerns about the cleanliness in the hospital.

They have a policy where you need to be with baby skin to skin contact immediately after birth and not separated from baby to shower before going to maternity ward. I do remember showering the next day though and it was amazing!

I second the recommendations to bring your own towel and flip flops.

Yeah not required. They want to make sure you are stable/able to stand on your own and aren't hemorrhaging. Typically you are settled for a while before allowed to shower.

I was not allowed to shower until they knew I want going to bleed out but after I for the OK I took a nice relaxing shower. But I wouldn't do it bare foot, not only for health reasons but also because it is slick tile and you are like a baby giraffe with after delivery shaky legs.

I had my husband help shower me off while I sat at the chair thingie (on a towel). It felt so good!
