Trouble TTC a Sibling

Is this where I need to be??

I am really ready to find a place on the bump where I fit in and can make some friends who understand what I'm going through and help me know what I should do next and this board was recommended but I'm really confused. I have 2 LO's but had my 5th loss yesterday (12/27). We've been actively trying for 10 months but ready to have another for 14 months and have lost 3 of the 5 during this time. We suspect the IUD I had was partially to blame for losses and lower hormone levels than normal. I contacted an RE several weeks ago but when I explained my situation she said she couldn't help me :/. She said go back to my OB. My OB has tested for everything (I think) and all results have come back negative for complication/good results. The only other test he thinks we should do is for DH's chromosomes with the genetic councilor.

It seems to be common in this area to leave your patients in the dark. I have had 3 drs and 7 pregnancies and still seem to know very little about TTC and all the numbers I'm supposed to know with pregnancy. We want to take a break from trying for now as we need to be there for our LO's and we think my body needs rest/healing, but we do want to try again and when we do we want help because we really don't want another loss. Since I know so little and the only RE in the area can't help me I'm at a total loss. And I do apologize, if I'm in the wrong place please direct me further, and I know very few acronyms. I've been on the bump since August and on another site before that but have only gone from my birth month club to miscarriage and loss each time. I haven't stayed anywhere long enough to catch on to anything, so I guess I'm still kind of a newb. I do promise that once I find the group I need to be in I will try to be supportive and not talk this^^^^ much.

Re: Is this where I need to be??

  • I'm sorry for your losses and I hope you can find someone who can help you. Typically after three losses they will do RPL (repeat pregnancy loss) testing so ask about that.

  • Thank you so much for welcoming me!! My dr has done 14 blood tests and physically checked this and that but I'm unsure of what any of it was. On my last pregnancy (#6) I was taking progesterone but had a skin allergy to it. My dr said there was a shot available as well, which I would like to try next time. I have not tried temping, it has never been mentioned to me but I have looked into on my own and want to try it. Seems simple enough?? But I don't know much about it. The dr did recommend we wait 3 cycles after losses, but we miscalculated days this last time and I got pregnant the cycle after the miscarriage. It didn't last long. I never talked to the RE personally, but I talked to the nurse twice and each time she discussed things with the RE and called back and then on the third call she just said the dr didn't think she could help me and to go back to my OB. I was caught off guard by that answer and had just had my BFP the day before so I just said ok. I would like to call back now and just make an appointment for a consultation or something.
  • Welcome, and I am so sorry about your losses.  I would definitely encourage you to push to see the RE, rather than just speaking with the nurse.  I'm just starting that process, and it seems so strange that the nurse rebuffed you.

  • I'm so sorry for your losses! I think this board would be a good fit for you. Definitely contact the RE in your area again. After 3 losses many will want to do testing. Are there any other REs in your area you could try calling?

There is only one in my area, however I know some people travel for some things and I have found one an hour and a half away and several 2 and 3 hours away. It's not ideal, but it is an option!!! An hour and a half is not that far.
  • So sorry for your losses. I'm not sure how it works but I've heard of many people traveling to REs out of their area. Normally an RE would be the one to do more extensive rebating for both you and DH. After about a year of unsuccessfully TTC and 3 rounds of Clomid we finally decided to see an RE and while testing was orocey and extensive, he helped us get to the root of the problem.
