  • Avoid the fumes... make sure you are in a well ventilated area. And if you're having someone do it, tell them you're pregnant and they will maybe not leave it on your roots/scalp for too long.

I am a hairstylist and it is 100% safe. Leaving it on the roots won't affect you at all. I recommend wearing a mask though as the fumes may not make you feel so well (especially if you are sensitive to smells and the moment). Be sure to let your stylist know you are pregnant as the hormone changes in your body and hair can cause a few things to go awry, like how the color will process and take. Although it is uncommon I have experienced pregnant women whose hair won't receive a color or even decolorizer not lift the hair to a usually obtainable level of lightness.

Oh and I had to edit to add in this bit. Please don't use home box dye! These contain a number of things like formaldehyde and metals (that is how they achieve color i.e. copper for shades of reds and oranges). Please also so demand an allergy patch test as an allergic reaction while pregnant is no joke. If you have a good stylist she will recommend both a patch test and to do a strand test on your hair. Hope this helps!

  • I asked my midwife this question at my appointment on Monday. She said that there is not enough evidence to back up whether or not it's safe, so she suggested not to do it. Ultimately, it's up to you, but I don't feel coloring my hair is worth the risk. It's something I can wait on since I don't have my hair done regularly.  The girls in my office, who are all mommies, told me I'd be fine, but when something is so up in the air like that I'm not willing to take any chances, especially after a recent miscarriage. I would never judge other moms on their decision to do it, it's just my personal feelings on it! I definitely say when it comes to mommyhood, to each their own. It's all so personal.
  • I asked my OB and RE and both said highlights were fine but to avoid all over dye.  I went at 8 weeks and all has been fine.

  • I don't know any moms who DIDN'T dye their hair during pregnancy. All have healthy babies and/or grown children (including myself and all 3 of my siblings). I got my roots done at 8 weeks and again a couple weeks ago at 15 weeks. Just my 2 cents.

  • Just had mine done yesterday and I'm 15 weeks. My doctor said I would be just fine.
  • To all of you who reply thank you so much. It help me a lot. Thanks again. Happy new year everyone
