Cloth Diapering

The toys, the toys, the TOYS, TOYS, TOYS, TOYS.

Holy toys, Batman!  We have so much STUFF in the house right now.  Before our Christmas parties, I took all of DS's toys and put them downstairs to get them out of the way.  Now I don't even want to bring them back up.  There's so much NEW stuff.  The grandparents went insane.  Anyone want to talk about organizational plans of attack?  Do you guys go through everything and donate a lot of stuff after an influx of toys like this?

  • I definitely plan to go through N's toys and get rid of some junky things. I also need to buy a couple of small tubs for blocks and gears. I keep a couple of medium sized tubs for other toys. He gets one tub at a time and I change them out every few weeks. It's not perfect, but it works ok for now.

  • @ovenrack, you wanna go have that breakfast beer right now?  I think I'm ready for one.  Not only has the aftermath of Christmas descended on my house, but it came with a man cold.
  • I go through N's old stuff while he is out of the house, and get rid of anything that isn't age appropriate or that is broken. It helps clear some of it away. However he is a stuffed animal hoarder.

  • I have a box of toys in the basement that I've been meaning to get rid of some how. I have some small stacking bins in each room (V's room, G's room, hislittleplayarea downstairs, and family room) so toys hopefully always have somewhere to go. Plus, those are the areas we spend most of the day in when we're home, so that's my attempt to make sure he always had something to do wherever we are. Otherwise he finds his own entertainment.

YES.  Let's go.  My house is a mess, my Christmas tree is full on dried up and so annoying, and my lovely sister who is here until Monday has come down with a cold, too.  Much better than a man cold, but I am fearful of catching it.  Or H catching it.  Plus I think H is teething because he bit me while nursing yesterday and again this morning.

So, yes.  Beer breakfast.  And I have four leftover creme brulees from last night, I will bring those.
Can I come? Boxing Day has brought a man cold upon the Maple house as well. I have sooooo much I want to do around the house on these days off and it's stuff that DH and I do well as a pair. So I'm bummed about instead having a DH sized lump.
If you both for real wanted to hang out today, that could be arranged.  It's my birthday and I plan on doing whatever I want.  Just send a PM.
  • Oooh, me too! That makes one leftover creme brûlée for each of us! J is back to work today and tomorrow, and I work Sunday. I feel like we had all of the holiday stress with none of the holiday relaxing.

  • I am still waiting for someone to go insane and buy ds2 a bunch of toys.....before/at birth given a few hand-me-downs but not much, his baptism - almost every gift was a blanket......last Christmas I, err, he got a couple cloth diapers and that's it......first birthday he got a handful of toys.....this Christmas...a few toys. I can still fit all of his toys in 2 small baskets (except a couple large toys of course). I wish, just once someone would give him a bunch of toys. However, when my older two did have the ton of toys, I went through them during playroom clean up days and removed broken toys and randomly removed toys the kids hadn't scattered around before picking up the ones that they did have out. If you keep the volume of toys in check through the year it's not such a daunting task during the huge influx days of Christmas and birthdays. If nothing else, remember it gets easier as the kids get older and their toys get more expensive which results in fewer presents. (And the kids get pickier and harder to buy for resulting in more cash and gift cards)

  • We're going to sell our sectional and reorganize. That'll give more room for the playroom. Thankfully people listened to us when we said not to get too much crap. MIL got the kids clothes except for a stuffed animal. However, I love me some Ikea organizers.

  • We are idiots and bought Z Mega Blocks for Christmas. I have no idea how we are going to keep that mess contained!
Um, yeah. I mentioned that DS needed some more megablocks and he got FOUR BOXES!

Both DH and I love building toys (duplos, TinkerToys, etc), so this is going to be a forever problem for us.
And so will stepping on blocks with your bare feet and trying to stifle the string of expletives which threatens to escape.

We kept the bag they came in. E is only allowed to pull them out, play with them, then put them out. They can never stay out. She's a little OCD too so this works for us.

In DS's room he has a 3 shelf book case. The bottom row is all books and the top two have cubes with loose toys (blocks, play food). The living room has a box for trains that he's obsessed with an is always out. Then there is a toy box of randoms that I rotate when I feel like it. The toy box is about 1/3 full. We try to keep toys to a minimum and have two totes downstairs stored away and someday when we are done making babies they'll get donated.

  • The Sageling also got a play kitchen from the inlaws. She can't even sit unassisted yet.
One thing less to buy later. She'll probably use it once she's mobile. Would of made a better 1 year present though.

My Aunt got all the kids motorized quads. Sure, they are the battery kind. However, what the hell! The kids loved them, but we don't have room for that shit. The kids already have to go to MIL's just to ride their bikes.

  • I tried to thin out the toys, but Logan is only a year and a half, so most are pretty new. I'm going to have a couple storage totes in the attic so I can rotate them out every so often.

I was pretty vocal on not wanting a bunch of toys. We have a 900 square foot house and no space! I broke my own rule and we bought Logan a small Kid Kraft kitchen, though. He loves it and has played with it almost non stop.

  • I need to buy some bins to put some toys in storage so we can rotate through. Once we finish the damn hardwood floors it will be easier for me to organize and sort. I had also bought a bunch of stuff used at one point because we all of a sudden needed more toys. I will go through and donate/trash the junk stuff I got.
