Thoughts on girl name Addison

Hi friends,
We are loving the girl name Addison (nickname Addie) but are completely stuck on middle names.... Any ideas?

Re: Thoughts on girl name Addison

  • Addison June
    Addison Kate
    Addison Claire
    Addison Mae
    Addison Elizabeth
    Addison Marie

But just to warn you, Addison will not get a lot of love here, since it's actually boy's name (even though many people use it for girls). I do think Addie is a cute nn though!

  • I'm firmly in the "Addison is a boy's name" camp (it means son of Adam). I'd suggest Adelaide or Adele if you are set on Addy/Addie for a nn.

  • I will always associate that name with the character on Grey's Anatomy, but I don't mind it. I don't love Addie though :(

    Love the name Adele!

  • Addison is a surname meaning Son of Adam and think it's bad for a girl.  Addie is a cute NN for:

    Adeline
    Adele
    Adelaide

We have a family member who just named her daughter Addison Jane which I think flows nicely.

Jane, June, Mae, Claire would work well with the above options as well.  If you are going to pick Addison, use something distinctly feminine for the MN.

  • It's a boy's name which isn't my main issue with it...my main issue is how trendy Addison/Addie are right now. There are just so many little Addies running around. It's getting out of control. Similar to Maddie not too long ago.

Yes, my idea is to pick a girl name as a first name, use addison as a middle name if you must.
  • Addison is a gorgeous girl name! If you love it then use it. Who cares what the name means. The post that suggested Addison Mae is my favourite.
  • Not in love with the nickname Addie. Plus, Addison sounds to much like a boys name to me. Also, it's an extremely popular name. I know about 10 different kids with the name Addison.
  • I agree Addison is not a good choice. It's trendy and unappealing.

I love the suggestion of Adele or Adela.
  • Besides all the reasons listed above of why Addison isn't a favorite around here, it's a boys name, it means Son of Adam (and I firmly believe the meaning of the name is just as important as the name itself), etc. I know 3 Addison Grace's, 1 Addyson and an Addalyn I'm just beyond annoyed with the NN Addy. So if the other reasons like the meaning and its a boy name doesn't bother you, I'd seriously want to rethink that regardless of what MN she has, she will be Addison "H"
  • I'm in the camp of "when I meet a boy named Addison then I'll call it a boys name" and yes I realize that doesn't change the meaning of it but I'm pretty confident the only people who care are on this board. So to answer the question you asked, I do like Addison Jane. It's very classy and lovely.

  • I don't like it based on the trendiness of it.

Adeline would be a good alternative. Nn addy
  • My cousin's name is Addison and goes by Addie. I LOVE it and it suits her strong and beautiful personality. This board likes to go off of definitions and what's "right." In my book Addison is unisex, though I've never met a boy named Addison so I lean more toward girl.

    MNs to consider

    Addison Jade
    Addison Rae
    Addison Mae
    Addison Marie
    Addison Louise
