Weight gain

So, I have been told as early as 16 weeks that I am "big" and "shouldn't be showing already". Now I am almost 28 weeks and have continued the trend with two large weight gains of 7 and then 11 pounds in the last two monthly appointments.
People say I am all belly and the dr doesn't seem concerned but it still weighs on me. I was almost 10lbs as a baby and my husband was 1.5 months early and weighed 8.5lbs.
I am terrified now that I'm gaining too much and will be huge forever now.
Anyone else have big gains and get worried like me? Did anyone else try changing their diet in the third trimester?

  • I had a gain of 7lbs. between my last two appointments. OB made no mention of my weight. If he is not concerned, then there is no reason for me to fret.

  • If your doctor isn't worried you shouldn't be either. You could change to a healthier lifestyle for 3rd tri if that's not something you've been doing but now is not the time to diet.

I gained a lot of weight with my first and it all came off and then some. I was not one of the lucky ones who lost lots of weight breastfeeding but with diet and exercise I was down below my starting weight with daughter. No reason your pregnancy weight gain has to stick around forever. When you are ready after baby arrives find a diet and exercise plan and the weight will come off.
  • Your profile pic shows you chowing down on an ice cream cone, so for all we know you could very well be huge.

I'd recommend eating a generally healthy diet with occasional splurges...to all people ever, not just pregnant women.

  • Im 30 weeks and up 25 pounds. People tell me that im small and i hardly started showing up until about 6 months or later lol. If your doctor is not concerned with your weight gain, then neither should you be. Your doctor will specifically tell you to cut back or start exercising more often if she thinks you're gaining irregurarly.
  • That's my plan as well. Thank you for being positive
  • Thanks for the positivity I guess lol
  • Just wanted to add I am 29 weeks and have already gained 40 lbs. My doctor said I should slow down and that it is basically too much to have gained already. I am 5'11'' and believe I was underweight before. Hoping for a fat healthy baby & fingers crossed that a lot of it could be water retention. I really haven't changed my eating habits aside from maybe a little more snacking, but my diet is the same. I had a very high metabolism before I was pregnant so it's kind of funny to see every single thing I eat showing up on my frame now. I don't mind it to be honest, as long as baby is healthy. I've already had my screening for GD and passed.
