Frustrated/Confused!

I had such a good experience with the forums here with my first LO. This time around, I think I'm in need of a little peace of mind. I am 35wks 1day with LO #2. At week 34, my Dr says I'll be coming every week at 35, plus group B strep test. Week 35 appt came, no test, barely glanced at. Dr isn't worried about seeing me again until wk 37, and no concern for 2lbs lost. Maybe I'm over thinking it, but the lack of concern bothers me a little. While I understand 40wks is best.. Chasing a now 3y/o and being pregnant is getting a little hard. Being induced the first time has given me the terrible fear of having to go through it again. Any input or mind easing suggestion is welcome!!

Re: Frustrated/Confused!

  • I'm really confused what you're looking for.

Is this your first pregnancy with this doctor? Call the nurse line and ask about the schedule of appointments for the rest of your pregnancy. If the doctor isn't concerned about 2 lbs weight loss, I wouldn't be, either.

Are you wanting to be induced because you're tired of chasing your 3 year old while pregnant?

The best thing to remember is you won't be pregnant forever, and you won't be pregnant much longer. If you are ever uncomfortable or unsure with something your doctor is doing, talk to them about it. Asking questions is better than having questions.

  • I wouldn't worry about being scheduled two weeks apart for appointments at this point. I didn't have a 36 wk appt. I didn't start going weekly until week 37, and had my strep test at 37 weeks.

  • Totally opposite of wanting to be induced. I was induced with my first and was very uncomfortable. No, I'm not tired of chasing my 3yo. She's the only thing keeping my sanity since I've stopped working. Mostly what I'm looking for is someone with the same experience. Yes, this is my first pregnancy with this Dr. Completely different experience than what I had with my last, so I'm not sure if this is a more common OB practice than what I had with my last. That's more the question, I guess.
  • Every OB is different, every pregnancy is different. If you're frustrated and confused, I would definitely communicate that to your doctor, but nothing you've shared sounds too out of the ordinary to me. Hang in there-- we're all at the end and are tired/achy/so ready to have our babies. I know I hate hearing it from others, but it is true that none of us have much longer now.

    Good luck. :)

  • It makes me feel better to hear it from others! Thanks :)
  • FTM here, but at my 31 week appointment the nurse told me next time I'd get tested for strep B, and then at the 33 week appointment she said she had been mistaken and it was at the next one instead (which I had on Tuesday). It's possible for you it was a miscommunication, we are all only human after all. Also, from the beginning my doctor told me I would start weekly appointments at 36 weeks (which I am today) but when she saw me Tuesday she told me we can skip next week since it will be pretty crazy around the office and everything looks fine. And my weight fluctuates 2-3 pounds (at home) constantly, that is totally normal. Water weight and having a bowel movement can make that change on a daily basis. If your doctor isn't pushing for more appointments I would take that as a good sign and not worry! Of course do ask your doctor if you ever have any concerns, and like PP said that nurse line is always open for you to call and get clarification.

  • I'm just glad to know that my experience isn't odd!! Complete peace of mind.. Thank you, all! Makes me feel much better :)
  • My appointments have been working out to every 10 days, but weekly appointments is the typical schedule for my office. I would speak up about your questions. Make sure your GBS test didn't get overlooked and ask about why they aren't having you come in sooner.

I could hold you for a million years to make you feel my love.
  • My surgery usually has 2 week gaps between appointments after 36 weeks but because of Christmas I won't have seen anyone between 35 weeks and 38 weeks. My midwife isn't concerned so as long as your pregnancy is straightforward I wouldn't worry.
  • I had my strep b test at 36 wks. But at the 37 wk appoint the nurse told me to put the gown on as he was goin to check my cervix but then he came in the room and asked if I had any contractions yet and when I replied no he said then we don't need to check the cervix and told me I could get dressed. Didn't measure my belly either. I understand your frustration. They need to take more time with us. It feels too rushed..Plus my doc is in and out In 2 min if I don't bombard him with questions which I usually try to:)
  • I had the strep b at 35 weeks at the hospital because they were threatening inducing. I switched obs at 37 weeks because I was extremely uncomfortable with mine and felt they weren't meeting my needs, but I also had a few things going on. You can switch you can demand better care and if you have concerns you should call.

  • Just throwing out there that scheduling during the holidays can be tough. I have a longer gap than normal between appts over the next few weeks becuase of the holidays. Since I am having a normal boring second pregnancy they are having me go longer between appts so they can make room for Moms to be having concerns/complications.
