We just booked our first flight with DD to San Diego for the spring! I am really excited. Anyone have recommendations on which area to stay in or what to do? We bought the tickets during Alaska's Cyber Week sale and are trying to not spend too much, so free and discounted suggestions are appreciated

We are going to go to the San Diego Zoo and I am looking forward to going to a few beaches, but that is all we have planned so far. I will be reading through previous posts on flying with a LO soon. Thanks!
Re: Planning a vacation to San Diego!
Get yourself down to seaport village/ embarcadero there's lots of little shops and an outdoor splash park for little ones. While you're there grab a drink at the top of the Hyatt, great views.
Across the harbor is the Cabrillo monument which is really beautiful and free to drive up to.
La Jolla cove is great to see the seals but for swimming I recommend la Jolla shores (check out mt. Soledad) or torrey pines which has great little hiking trails.
Across the Coronado bridge is Coronado island and the Hotel del Coronado. This is one of the nicest places and is worth grabbing at least a drink there to check out the Hotel. The beach at Coronado is huge.
If you like beer I recommend getting up to north county for the main location of Stone Brewing. It's incredible and one of my favorite places.
I'm a local so let me know what you're interested in doing and I can recommend more :-)
We will have DD, so we are interested in kid-friendly places. The splash park sounds really fun. I love to take pictures so pretty places like the Cabrillo monument are appreciated suggestions.
We were looking at Hotwire for hotels, but you need to choose any area to stay in. Any suggestions on where to stay? Thank you!
Forgot to mention legoland, although it's not going to be free. All the beaches I mentioned are scenic/historical also. Also everything I mentioned is kid acceptable too. If you go to the top of the Hyatt during the day it's open to families and I think you can even get a bite to eat if you want.
Can check out old town, Belmont park
