I have a question about wood flooring and playrooms. We are moving into a new house that has a living room, since we don't have a living room here and therefore no living room furniture, I am going to make that into a playroom until the kids are a little older.
It has hardwood floors though. It's a brand new house so I obviously want to avoid as much scratching as possible since it will be a formal living at some point and we plan on staying in this house forever.
Area rug? Or those foam square things with the letters and numbers? I don't want to spend a lot if I do an area rug since its a playroom. Any suggestions?
If you use the foam squares, do you put anything under them to protect the wood. I feel like the foam things would end up sticking or leaving a residue after being down a while. I'm also worried a kid will spill something and not tell me and it will sit and soak into the floor. Where with a rug it hopefully wouldn't go through. I have no idea! Right now the playroom is in the basement and is carpet but the new house basement is not finished and we won't do that for a long time.
Also how do you clean the foam squares?
Sorry for so many questions. Tell me everything you know!!!!
Re: Playroom flooring
You don't think with all the toys bashing around the wood will get too scratched up if I put nothing?
Also any suggestions on where to get a good but inexpensive area rug? We have carpet in this house so I have never had an area rug. I don't think we have an ikea around. Home goods?
I can't get the ticker to work, but I have two sons:

DS plays rough and likes to throw his toys, bang them on the floor etc. Also pulling in and out the chairs to the table - graceful he is not. Knocks over the chair at least once a day LOL.
Yeah the kitchen is closer for snack so that's a good point. I hadn't thought of target and I go there every damn day it seems like! Lol
Thanks!
I was just thinking I might have my mom get this for his bday in March. She was asking me what she can get him... ( bc you know christmas was yesterday! Lol )
Edited for fat fingers
