  • This was one of the few things the OB office told me to do- take your vitamins, don't drink alcohol, and drink plenty of low fat milk! That's what we drink anyhow, and I love it.
  • I dont drink milk, havent since im 6, theres lots of other ways to get your calcium.

Same. I don't actually like it much. I do get some in cereal, but I only eat cereal maybe 1-2 times a week. And it's like 1/4 cup. Otherwise, I get it from other sources. + calcium pill.

  • I mean, whatever you normally drink is fine. We switched over to organic whole milk because there's less chemicals (not that chemicals are bad things in general) and less treatment done to the milk. But we did that ages ago, and we don't drink a lot of it.

  • I had a hit of Canadian milk when I was visiting my mum beginning of December, and it tasted FOUL. It wasn't off because I tried a couple different jugs, so I thought it was just my preggers tastes changing (it was a few days before my BFP). Then I got back to jolly old, and low and behold, the milk here still tastes divine. I dunno what they're doing to milk in Canada, and I never used to hate it when it was what I was used to, but just wanted to say, my condolences for my fellow Canadians drinking that shit.

I realise this is slightly off topic, but I had to get that off my chest.

I have no idea what you mean. The milk here is separated, pasteurized, has vitamins D and A added (from lemongrass oil and lanolin, respectively), and that's pretty much it. There is less done to alter milk in Canada than in the States. We have very strict regulations about antibiotics (the milk from a cow being treated with antibiotics cannot be sold until quite a while after she completes the course, and her milk is checked before she's back in production) and there are no artificial growth hormones used here.

  • I personally do a mix of 2% organic and almond milk. No hormones in the organic and more calcium in the almond
  • I don't know about Canadian milk or UK milk, but I lived in a country in South America and one in Europe and store bought milk in both countries was horrid compared to the US in my opinion. I think every country's milk probably tastes different and it just depends on what you are used to. I also HATE with a passion the ultra homogenized stuff from anywhere but raw milk (we boiled it, strained it, and then cooled it) I got in Europe tasted more like the stuff in the US to me. Who knows.

As for what is best to drink, that is going to be a really individual answer. Someone overweight and big on organic stuff is likely going to go for low-fat or skim organic milk. Someone who doesn't give a crap about organic stuff and is underweight is likely to go for Vit D/whole milk and not worry about the organic part. Personally, I'm underweight and care about the hormones but not so much the organic part so I drink whole milk/Vit D milk from a local chain here that does not use hormones.

In other words drink (or don't drink if you don't like milk) whatever you are comfortable with.
  • We alternate between rice, hemp, coconut and flax milk. DS drinks organic goat milk. I agree with pp's - you don't need to consume dairy to get your daily calcium intake; there are much better foods out there and if your diet isn't varied then you can take supplements if you're concerned.
