Anyone switched ob/gyn during their pregnancy?

Hey ya'll I'm 19 weeks and thinking about switching dr's Bc I've realized I'd like to give birth at a smaller medical birthing center rather than a big teaching hospital. Also, my current office doesn't work with midwives and that's something im starting to think I want. Anyone have experience switching ob/gyn during pregnancy?

I switched at 18 weeks and didn't regret it at all! I didn't care for my original OB and it was a smart choice.

I switched when I was 16 weeks and I am so glad I did. If you are even considering it, do it. Having a doc you click with is important. I felt like it was easy. I just had my previous doc send my records to my new one, and she was all caught up by my first appt. Good luck!

Good to hear it's a little more common than I thought! Through a good amount of online research and suggestions from some ladies at work I know exactly who I want to switch to and I can't wait to get the ball rolling tomorrow. I'm definitely going with my gut and already feel better!

I considered it. I was unhappy with my midwife practice and called and scheduled appointments with a new practice, but their process to switch me over was such a pain in the butt!!!! I had to do a nurse intake, all my tests (OB screen and a pelvic exam) and an initial midwife appointment again. After all that then they could schedule me for my regular appointments and ultrasounds. I understand the reasoning for them to require that, but in the end I decided to stay where I am. Not just because of the changing process, but because of other factors as well.

So long story short, if you switch, do so ASAP since it might be complicated to get everything sorted out with the new practice.

I switched and it was easy as pie. We moved across country and found a small midwife natural birthing center and we couldn't be happier. The previous practice gave me all the records on a disc and they didn't have to retest at all.

i switched from an ob to a midwife at 20 weeks. (im currently 22 weeks) i couldnt be happier with my decision. i had a sense this was what i wanted at 12 weeks, though we decided to wait until after the anatomy scan. its really a personal choice but i am so glad i listened to my gut and am making progress towards preparing for the birth experience i want. best wishes!

I switched from an OB to a midwife and am thrilled! Best decision I made so far! I was a stressful mess with my other doc and now I feel confident. I switched at 17 weeks and wish I had done it when I first thought I might want to. So if you have doubts with your current doc I say don't hesitate to switch!

I have not gone through this specific situation, but I do strongly believe that you should have the doctor that you feel will give you the best care and the type of care that you are looking for.

I switched at 17w because we moved. Not a big deal except the city we moved to is limited in physicians so I was lucky to find an OB taking new patients when we got there. Get a hard copy of your labs and records just in case. It sped things up for me to just hand the new doctor my information rather than waiting for my old hospital to send it over.

I switched in the first trimester with my 1st pregnancy bc the OBGYN was very pro CS bc of me having had two previous back surgeries (she said something about scar tissue and increased pressure in the spinal canal). [I ended up having an all natural, fast vaginal delivery]. It was relatively easy to switch.

I just switched to a MW practice closer to home. I loved my OB, but wanted to be closer than 40 min from the hospital of delivery (which could easily be 2 hrs with bad traffic) and I wanted a midwife anyway (they had them too, but again, too far). They were a bit slow on sending records, but it got done and everything was fine. I switched just last week at 20 weeks.

I am considering it. The office I'm at now is great but the whole reason I started there was because of this midwife that everyone raves about. I met her for the first time this week and she quietly informed me she's leaving in 2 weeks to go to a smaller practice. She wasn't able to give me the reasoning behind her leaving but she'll still have privileges at the same hospital I want to deliver. She said she'd be happy to see me and odds are I'd see her a lot more than I would have if she'd stayed at the current office. So now I'm pondering the switch and will call and ask about a few things next week. Bummer but I'll just try to get all the info and make a decision soon.

I was forced to because my doctor was a douche and dropped me. He's an idiot who refuses to do any research and therefore we have differing opinions on the rare condition I have.

My search to find someone knowledgable was irritating. I finally found someone I hope knows their shit but they were booked until January 8th. So I'm currently on week 6 of the 8 weeks I will have no medical care. My old OB is really irritating me because I asked them to transfer my records over two weeks ago and my new OB says they haven't received them. I'm going insane and want to punch something.

But from other responses, I guess my experience isn't the norm, so OP, do what you feel you need to do.

I switched at about 20 weeks with my first pregnancy because my midwife was awful, truly awful. I ended up with an ob that was okay, and then I delivered with a different doctor. It's fine to switch, but the sooner the better for building that relationship with your midwife.
