Haircut

Before we found out we were pregnant, I was planning on cutting off all my hair (I grow it out every few years and donate it) but I've been reading on different sites about getting ready for baby and they all seem to bring up something about not cutting your hair. So I'm confused about what to do. Do I continue with what I've always done, or do I hold off because it pulls back into a bun so nicely right now?

Re: Haircut

  • Not cutting your hair? That's a new one....

I know some people are concerned with hair dye in the first trimester, but even then there's no evidence that it's actually a problem.

  • I haven't heard of that either. I'd say if you really want to cut it, go for it.

  • What @BethKate2‌ said. I've never heard that before.

I personally like having my hair long enough to pull into a ponytail while I have a tiny baby, but that's just preference.

  • Awesome. Thanks guys :) I think I'll go for it...I have a few months to start growing it again before I have a baby around to yank it.

I was very curious where that was coming from!

I know with my DD, not only did my face get fatter, but my hair texture changed completely! So what I thought would look good, and was my usual shorter hair style, didn't look quite the same...

  • My last pregnancy my hair stopped falling out and grew really fast. So I'm not chopping anytime soon, just for the fact that it's about the only time in my life that my hair may actually grow! Now postpartum... ugh I chopped it all off a few months in because I couldn't stand the fistfuls of hair that fell out each time I shampooed. We'll see what happens this time around.

Is it possible you're confusing it with the recommendation by "websites" that you don't do drastic changes while you're pregnant in case you regret it? Because I've DEFINITELY heard of that...

    Most likely.

  • FFS. It's hair. It'll grow back.
  • I've heard the ponytail factor is a big player when you're an underslept new mom, but you're giving a huge gift that makes you feel good and you've got lots of time to grow more hair.

  • Personally, my hair went all kinds of wack after I had DS. I won't be doing much to it until after August and I see what happens with this one.
Ditto the PP on keeping enough for a ponytail, though.

  • If you have an August due date you have around 7months to grow your hair back out. That should be enough time to be able to pull it back. I do the same thing, I cut it short and then grow it back out and it grows fast. And now it's growing faster because of all the extra vitamins in my prenatals.
  • Just wait until your a few weeks PP and it all falls out anyway. Seriously though it's got 7 months to grow back, you're fine.
