DD will be 12 months on January 30. I thought I'd be starting work mid-January, but I'm starting earlier than I expected - January 2nd. I was going to pump a stockpile and transition to cow's milk as she gets closer to a year, but now I won't have time to stockpile (we're travelling until end of December and I don't have a pump with me to get started) so I'm not really sure what to do.
If it makes a difference, I am a nurse and will be doing two days (7am-7pm) followed by two nights (7pm-7am) then will have days off. Also, I'm casual so won't have set shifts. After this first set of 4 shifts I'll probably be able to pump enough milk for later shifts I just don't have time to prepare for the first set.
I'm not opposed to using formula but would rather not spend the money if I don't have to. Is it a big deal to start cow's milk a few weeks early? I'll be pumping as much as I can so that my H and the daycare provider can at least give her some breast milk, but definitely won't have enough for the first two days.
