At his check up he was almost 5m and doc told us he is underweight. He was 14.8 so she said to start solids..

Doesn't seem "underweight" to me, but then again you've left out some other pertinent details like birth weight, length, and formula or breast fed.

My friend's son was just under 15 pounds I think at his 6 month appointment, breast fed and she never mentioned anything about the doc saying he was underweight. If he's gaining steadily I don't see what the problem is, but I'm also not a doc :)

DD was 19.6 pounds according to the Wii fit on her 5mo birthday

So he's almost double his birth weight before 6 months (most babies double their birth weight by 6 months) and your doctor thinks he's underweight?  Doesn't sound right.  I wouldn't worry about it (and maybe find a new doctor, or at least ask this one why they think he's underweight).

I have a long and skinny little guy, but he's solid @ 15.5lbs and 27in.  As long as your LO is gaining weight, meeting his milestones, and seems happy I wouldn't worry about it.  Is this a family doc or a Pedi?  Family docs tend to forget the little nuances about patients in the age ranges that aren't their faves - they can't remember everything, afterall.  If it's a Pedi, I'd switch docs.

She's a pedi. I guess she was looking at the percentile and he was in the %12 she wanted to see closer to %50

My Little is 19 weeks and 16.06, he was 8.02 at birth.  Sounds like he is going well to me, if he was 7 1/2 pounds at birth!

my baby was Big from the start and It worries me how Big he will get later on and im not going to be able to carry him anymore. He was 8.14oz when he was born and now at 19 weeks he's 19lbs, I'm exclusively breastfeeding and this nutrition consultant told me my milk has lots of calories and there's nothing I can do or nothing that I'm eating that's contains those calories. is anyone with a big baby like me that I can relate to? he is already wearing 12 months clothes.

He is soooo cute!  He looks long/tall!  What does the pedi say?  He looks healthy now...maybe his growing will slow down and even out?

This doesn't make a lot of sense. Has he plummeted in his growth trend?

Percentiles don't really matter unless you're talking failure to thrive or obesity.  Right now, I'm taking care of a kid in the 2%ile...THAT matters because he was born in the 50%ile (so he dropped significantly).

My LO is in3 percentile and gaining steadily on breast milk. She is just over 14lb at 24 months. All I hear from doc is that she's doing great. You are doing great.

    Unpopular opinion....

Your pedi is a doctor. We are not. We are internet starngers who dont know your kid's medical background. Did you ask more questions about why youe pedi was concerned? If you are worried get a second opinion from another medical doctor. Do your research and ask detailed questions.

We dont know anything about your pedi, so I think its jumping the gun to call your pedi an idiot. Suggesting a 5mo old start solids is not unheard of to help with weight gain.

(yes, I am aware of the APP guidelines)

I am exclusively breastfeeding and my little man weighed 19lb at his last checkup at 21 weeks. Ped said he was overweight and had me "tone it down" when feeding from the bottle (i usually give him 6-7oz which is what I pump) which irked me b/c that's just the amount he's demanding. Why is this so bad? So he's gonna be a big boy and he's healthy, wtf?!

Lurker here. My LO is 18 lbs and 27 in at 5 months. @Rqlortiz81‌ my Ped never mentioned my LO being overweight. In fact, he said he was doing great. I don't know why your Ped would say your LO is overweight.

It's been 4 weeks since the last appointment when he was 14.8 lbs and we went to check his weight he's almost 6 months now, he's at 15.11 lbs

We did start solids but he's not too crazy about them. Few purée spoons here and there. We been trying for 4 weeks now. He seems to like the rice cereal in a bottle. I put it couple of times a day. But the pedi still wasn't happy about weight. She said she wanted him to be around 17lbs..

Rice cereal a choking hazard? I didn't know, the pedi recommended it. I'll try solids every few days.

Your little guy is so adorable!!

My BFF was in the same situation with her little one. He was also 8/14 at birth and he was a big baby throughout that whole first year, but around 14 months or so he started to balance out and get a lot taller. Now he looks like every other little baby running around (only taller :D) Are there some "leggy" genes in your family? :) I know there was in hers (Her husband is 6'1" and she is 5'11")

thank u!! that's what I think he will only be a big kid and he will do just fine, I mean the ped has never said anything about him being over weight and seems healthy. and yes. I have 7 siblings and they all are tall. but the problem is my back hurts bad and I can't carry him for a long time standing up since I'm 5'5" 118 lbs

Yes, I can relate my son is 3 months and already 14 lbs. He was 7lbs 6 oz and 21 inches at birth, and I mostlty breastfeed/pump, but I do supplement with formula on occasion. He is a big boy like his daddy was (my husband was 11 lbs 3 oz at birth and his father was 11 lbs 6 oz, both vag births....ouch)

My son Maxwell was born at 37 weeks and he weighed 6 lbs 4.4 oz. He is 5 months now and weighs almost 20 lbs. His pediatrician says he is really big. I am only 5'4" 120 lbs and I swear some days it is like my arm is going to break off. I also get terrible back aches. My husband recently broke his wrist so I have to do all the holding now and GOOD LORD. I love my Maxwell but sometimes I just have to set him down. He also wears 12 month old clothes. His dad is 6'2" 210 lbs and in the 5th grade he reached 6' so I just think some kids are meant to be huge.
