Hello and question

Hi ladies, I'm a momma of 2 precious boys. My oldest will be 3 on Saturday and my youngest was born Aug 16th. I was very active on thebump with my first but not at all with my second...until now. I love this community because it's a great source of support (usually lol) and information.

So here's an unusual thing with my baby. Since birth he has had acne. I thought it would go away after a few weeks but it hasn't. I thought maybe it was hormones from breastfeeding but I stopped nursing several weeks ago and he gets only formula now. He does get the red bump acne but what is worse are the blackheads - they are everywhere! At his 4 month check up last week I asked his pedi about this and he agreed it is unusual. He suggested using Clearasil pads. After reading some things on the Internet, one day I wiped his face with some diluted apple vinegar which is supposed to have good antibacterial properties, but it burned his face!

The acne is so unsightly, I just hate it marking up his adorable little face. I didn't think we would have to deal with this until puberty. My first son did not have this problem at all.

Just wondering if anyone else has had a baby with this issue or has any suggestions for how to gently and safely try to clear his complexion?

Re: Hello and question

  • Does your LO have cradle cap? I found that to be the source of my daughter's acne, and my doctor agreed. It spreads down their face and chest. As long as I keep that cleared up her face is great! And sometimes the cradle cap is very hard to see.

  • Elaina - he does have some dry flaky scalp but I'm not sure if it qualifies as cradle cap. It's not a lot and is most noticeable after a bath. Would that cause blackheads though??

Possibly. My LO never got blackheads but she did get white heads. I use Mustela shampoo along with coconut oil to loosen the flakes. I noticed an improvement immediately.
  • @Joy1192‌ - I haven't had a chance to get any yet but will try them soon.

  • @Elaina22‌ - thanks for the feedback. I had no idea cradle cap could cause that.

  • I used cetaphil lotion to get rid of DDs acne, but it wasn't as bad as what you're describing. I put a little on her face every day and it stays clear.
