Trouble TTC

AW: Patience is a virtue I don't have!!

So as some of you may recall from my previous post and intro I have been waiting for an appointment with the OBGYN in town. Just got the letter yesterday and appointment is set for March 16,2014. I don't want to wait that long!!! So I called the office of an RE in the city 5 hours away and guess what the wait is there?...12-18 months!!!! I am going to lose my mind waiting.
Add to that the fact that I know I am going to have to dodge a billion "when are you having babies?" questions from well meaning extended family in the next two days and I had my first IF melt down. Cried all morning and I never cry. Why didn't anyone tell me this was going to be so damn hard?! End rant, thanks for listening.

Re: AW: Patience is a virtue I don't have!!

  • Wow! That is a LONG time to wait! I am so sorry. Hopefully you can get on a cancellation list and get in sooner? Hang in there and hugs to you.

  • Thanks ladies, glad I'm not the only one that thinks having to wait that long is insane. At least my lack of patience had me asking for a referral before trying for a full year.
@kbojo24‌ the RE 500km away is literally the closest RE to me. The joys of rural Canadian living.
@susykat77‌ I do plan on calling the OBGYN and my MD Jan 5 (everyone is closed for the holidays now) to see if anything can be done to be seen sooner. And I'm considering asking my MD for a referral to the RE now in case my OBGYN doesn't figure it out, I'd at least have an appointment in the works for a year from now.
  • I am so sorry.  There's not good way to say it, that totally sucks!  (HUGS)

  • Ugh that sucks and you definitely needed to let your frustration out don't feel bad. I'd be totally pissed off too!! I hope someone cancels their apt soon and they call you asap! Sending good vibes your way :)
  • Thanks everyone. I'm definitely going to explore some options in the new year.
  • @iPutKetchupOnKetchup‌
I assume you are in the US? I'm in Canada so our government pays for all basic health care including diagnostic testing for IF. They do not cover most treatment, definitely not IUI or IVF. I really don't know much about how it works in the states but I assume if you are willing to pay privately you can just about anything done right now? Here, the doctor works for the government and isn't allowed to bill privately for anything the government pays for. So it doesn't matter that I have cash in the bank and would pay anything to have an appointment tomorrow, I have to wait. This is much worse when you are in an under serviced rural community. I assume it wouldn't be as bad living in Toronto or Vancouver.
That being said I do plan on asking questions and at the very least getting on a wait list for cancellations with the OBGYN. If I have to call in sick for the second time in six years to attend the appointment then I guess that's what I will do.
***I would point out that I never asked for rainbows and kittens. I'm not a rainbow and kittens kind of person, I'm a say it like it is and if you don't like it too bad kind of person. I apologized for offending you and followed your advice. Your "disclaimer" just oozes anger though..."what the hell" "honest fucking response" "Let that be known"....so hostile. You want to be snarky with me, that's cool, snarky doesn't bother me. It might actually make me like you. But you might be happier if you realize that this is the internet and there is always going to be idiots asking idiotic questions, try not to let it irritate the living shit out of you all the time.***
  • Oh my goodness, I am so sorry! I can't imagine how frustrating that must be. I really hope you are able to get an earlier cancellation. Perhaps call and bug them every couple weeks until they just want to give you what you want? ;)

I wonder if you could get CD3 bloodwork with your PCP ahead of time. And perhaps get YH to a urologist for his SA and repeat SA. That way, if needed, you could get started on Metformin, drugs to deal with elevated prolactin, meds or ultrasound for YH, any of those things that can put someone on the bench for a while, and then all that would be left is an ultrasound and HSG with your GYN before you could do a medicated cycle if needed! :)
