Has anyone read any parenting books they'd recommend or tell people to avoid?
For pregnancy books, I got the Mayo Clinic Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy (which I think is the print version of all those weekly updates The Bump sends to my phone, so I don't really find it useful) and Expecting Better by Emily Oster, which I loved, since she generally asks "why", but it's not the most comprehensive book.
Amazon suggests "What to Expect in the First Year" when I sort early parenting books by user rating, but I'm going to gamble on that being more Mayo Clinic format than Emily Oster awesomeness. After that, the choices get pretty eclectic (and probably interesting).
Re: Parenting book recommendations?
Mom to Carter (6), and Calianne (1).
Proud VBAC, natural birth, breastfeeding, cloth diapering momma!
Probably doesn't pertain to most, but My therapist recommended "Parenting from the Inside" which deals with attachment theory and forming a safe attachment for your baby. For a lot of people this is instinctual so it might not be helpful. My husband came from an abusive family though where he never felt safe so this book has helped us understand what he went through as a child.
