Am I being "too sensitive"?

Please tell me if I'm being overly sensitive or if my own IF failures have hardened me to other people's joy. I happened to run into a woman I barely know is a patient at the same clinic when I was seen and whosetransfer was around the time I first started cycling in August. Without asking the fate of my cycle she informed me that she is now pregnant with twins and doesn't know how she will cope financially or emotionally with 3u2. She repeated over and over again how she must be their prototype of success because one fresh and one frozen cycle will give her 3 children. It was only after talking what seemed an eternity about herself did she ask about the fate of my cycle. When I told her it was not successful she muttered a very cursory 'sorry' and walked away. Am I deluding myself into thinking that IVF should be more thoughtful?

I agree with you Mo. If one has been through IF, they should never brag about their success. And they should be more considerate of those still fighting. I'm so sorry. Hugs.

Thank you TJ.I don't know if it's my anger and hurt reacting or if she was being a self-involved twat.

This happened a day after my childless SIL told me that L needs a sibling because she was acting like a brat. I hate everyone today.

I don't think you're being sensitive either, that's just plain rude knowing very well that you were cycling too and not even asking. I think sensitivity to pregnancy related things will never go away, but I think you are completely right on this one.

@Ducky719‌ SIL is an academic, PhD candidate in applied mathematics and has no idea what is normal and typical toddler behavior..I was glad to see FIL shot her a dirty look after her comment because he and SMIL are very aware of our IF.

I had to chuckle about this woman's situation because I know her husband didn't want to pay a storage fee for the embryos so now will have to pay for twins and an older sibling in daycare. I guess long range planning is not her forte.

I would be totally bothered by that interaction also....she was being blatantly insensitive and also totally self-centered. I have no idea why you would say those things to someone who you know also struggles with IF and who is not visibly pregnant...wrong audience. So sorry you had this interaction

I swear so many people say crappy stuff to you. It must be tempting to walk around with headphones and ignore everyone.

Definitely not being overly sensitive.....She is really a piece of work. It boggles my mind that someone dealing with IF would actually complain about their pregnancy....

Thank you ladies . I'm glad to have my feelings reinforced. Unfortunately dealing with IF doesn't make everyone more in tune to other people. Occasionally there are drive by posts on here or on IF board from women who should know better.
