We're having a rough day

First off, she is okay!

Emma was in a great mood this morning so I wanted to get her 4 month pictures in while I could get some smiles. I set her in the chair next to her bear and started taking the pictures not more than a foot away. She would fall to the side and I would set her back up. Then, she got off balance ad fell forward, tumbling off of the chair on to the floor. I thought I was a reactable distance away but I wasn't. My poor girl immediately started crying (as did I) and I scooped her up. I was sick on my stomach. I called my mom and a nurse friend to come over and look her over. Once I calmed down enough I called the pediatrician who assured me that this happens all the time and it was okay. They told me to just make sure she was acting like herself and check her while she sleeps.

I feel so unbelievably terrible. How could I let that happen. It makes me sick to my stomach. She is perfectly fine, not even a bump. She was also laughing and smiling at me while I was crying. I just feel awful. I am so thankful she is okay and we are currently cuddling on the couch. I don't think I will be setting her down for several days.

Picture added because she's cute.

Re: We're having a rough day

  • Hugs mama! I had a similar scare a few weeks ago where I tripped over the dog and pinned LO between me and the crib. He was fine and it took me a few days to emotionally recover! My mom tried to comfort me by telling me I rolled off her bed when I was a baby :-P

  • Forgot to say....she is very adorable! My one regret about having a boy is the cuteness of girl accessories!
  • Huge hugs! This happened to me with DD1 and it was so terrifying! She flipped herself off the bed while I turned to grab her shirt from the dresser. I was so close to her she fell right between my feet. I still don't even know how it happened but I felt horrible!

  • This hasn't happened to me (yet) but it certainly could have!! You described our plans for the day tomorrow perfectly. Thanks for sharing your story, I'll be more careful tomorrow but just know it could easily have been any one of us! Glad she's ok!

  • Umm yeah. DD fell out of the swing at like 3-4 weeks old. Actually, I don't know if she fell out or if DS tried to pick her up and he dropped her. I was putting away clothes for like a minute. She was fine, I freaked out.

    Hugs.

  • Hugs! Its scary but nothing too terrible.  A fell off the couch the other day and I was sitting right next to her, changing her diaper.  Oops. :\"> Like your pedi said, watch her while she's sleeping and if she seems at all off, then take her in, but she should be fine. Hope you feel better! And hope you got some cute pictures!

  • Thank you ladies so much! Not happy that this has happened to other LOs but happy to know we are in good company.

  • I really do agree with @yoginikiki I think it's a milestone of motherhood! DD1 fell off the bed when she was a baby and I remember how freaked out I was.  She was fine of course.

Hugs, hope you calm down soon.  And on the bright side... now that it's happened, if it happens again, or happens with a second child you probably won't freak out as bad.  I feel like now that I know DD1 has survived if it happens with DD2 it won't be quite as bad of a panic situation.

  • I have yet to drop her but I am embarrassed at the number of times I have dropped my phone on her head. I always give her lots of cuddles for the rest of the day.
  • That is so hard. DS fell off the couch last month bc he tried to sit up and I had him propped weird. I was so close but was helping DD use the potty chair and I couldn't catch him. I felt so bad but he was fine.

  • Oh yes, I'm in the dropped him already club :( And he was only 5 days old! Slipped off the bed onto a hardwood floor during a MOTN nurse when I dozed off... from then on, I've been sure to nurse on the living room sofa and keep my brain engaged for MOTN sessions, so I guess all in all it was a valuable lesson learned.

Go easy on yourself, we all have these days!

  • Emma is doing well, no bumps or bruises. And I don't feel like the worlds worst mother anymore. So glad I joined the bump, you ladies are awesome!

  • I'm sorry you had a bad day! I hate bad days:( I am just waiting until this happens to me...don't feel too bad-it's inevitable and she is okay:)
  • I was walking to the nursery in the middle of the night when she was a week old, and my cat got under my feet. I tripped and ended hitting her little head on the door frame. She screamed, and I started sobbing. She was fine - I think it was a passing blow - but I felt terrible.
