Going cold turkey (bedtime regimine)

So for the past maybe 6 wks my LO has been sleeping horribly!!! I mean 1-2 he intervals all night, every night and it's taking its toll on me! I decided that tonight He would not be swaddled (as he is every night), I would only do 2 maybe 3 nursing (as opposed to the 5/6 I do to just put him back to sleep) if he won't sleep after some help of course I will nurse but I don't want to create bad nursing habits MOTN...

I never let him fuss and will now to an extent... I put him down drowsy but awake and let him fuss it out for 15 minutes before it was full blown crying... I rocked a bit and as soon as he got drowsy it was back down....

I'm sure it's going to be a rough couple days but it's already rough so why not sleep train since things aren't well anyways

Wish me luck ladies!! Oh and DH works till 1 am so it's all on me :)! I got this'!

Oh yea, he napped really well not swaddled today, almost 2 hrs actually so here's to hoping it helps!!

  • That's a LOT of changes at once.

  • Good luck! We are doing something similar while both my DH and I are home for Christmas. Here's to some good sleep coming our way.

  • It's is a lot but no one is sleeping anyways so something has to change... He's been asleep now for 1 hr and hasn't been woken up by his hands yet.... I think he likes having his hands.. As he's getting comfy he rubs his eyes and head and goes back to sleep....

Sending good vibes your way and hoping it works for us lol
  • Good luck! My LO woke up an hour after her first early AM feeding last night (like usual) but instead of immediately Going to her rescue, I let her talk and fuss around as an experiment and sure enough, 12 mins later she put herself to sleep! I was totally shocked! She slept till 8:29 this morning! You never know how they will act. Worth a shot!
  • I've been trying the paci before nursing and recently decided to ditch the swaddled arms, so I say good luck, and remember they are still little and if it doesn't go as planed it doesn't mean it will be like this forever :)

  • We did something similar.  We did cold turkey no swaddle in the crib (from swaddled in the rock n play).  The first night was a little rough but it got better.  He roles to his side and is able to get himself settled back down if he startles awake.  I nurse him when he gets up at midnight and then my husband sooths him when he is up at 4:00.  Then is he back up around 6:00 and I nurse him again.  He was rolling over to his tummy so we decided to stop swaddling and I figured it couldn't hurt because he was waking up several times a night anyways.  Now I would say he is doing better and I think part of it is that he likes the freedom of movement.  Good luck!  And if tonight isn't awesome, it may get better every day.
  • Thanks ladies! He slept 2 hrs and within those 2 hrs he put himself back to sleep several times BuT once he hit 2 hrs he wasn't having it... I've never had a hard time putting him down and it just took 1 hr, he slept 40 min and woke up again but to nurse... He fell asleep very fast after that.... I'm expecting a few rough nights of this... We've had a rough month anyways so figured why not....

    This.

He does fuss a bit if he wakes in the next hour but all I have to do is go in, pat his chest for about 2-3 minutes until he calms, walk out.

We just decided to go for it because why not? If it didn't work we could try something else. Besides, I couldn't decide on a transition approach
