Recommend your carrier

Hey ladies! Looking for a carrier that will allow me to be hands free especially around the house. I'm a bit intimidated by those complicated wrap ones though I do like the idea of them better than the Ergo which we have already at home. Little man loves to be held close but as you all know that's impossible to do when you are trying to get stuff done. Thanks!

Re: Recommend your carrier

  • I got a Boba recently and I really like it. You do have to learn how to tie it, but honestly it's not that difficult. I went to a store where they had them out and the sales lady showed me how to use it and it was so helpful. There are also videos online.

I have an Ergo too and I'm excited to use it for outdoors (walks, hikes etc.) but I wanted something softer for indoors and the Boba works great for that. I pretty much have been leaving it tied all day and just taking LO in and out as needed. I have two hands again!

  • I have the Moby... it's awesome around the house during long nap time, but frustrating aside from that. It takes a bit of time to get it situated just right (which sucks with a fussy baby or standing in the rain at the car) and it's next to impossible to nurse while wearing it. After seeing the Mei Tai, I think that will be a gift to myself. I don't care for the baby Bjorn (maybe we'll like it more when she's bigger).
  • I was thinking about getting the Mei Tai. I have a lillebaby but it's kind of a pain with a newborn.

  • I will say the k'tan I love mine and my LO loves it too! I think you just need to make sure you get the right size. There are tons of different ways you can wear it.

  • I have a ktan wrap and a boba carrier and like both for different purposes. The ktan was great for the first month but LO is now too big for the kangaroo position but not quite developed enough for the next one so I've been using the boba a lot, which is really comfortable and easy to get on and off especially out of the house.

  • I have a Moby and a Sash Mei Tai.

I prefer the Moby when going out because I can put it on beforehand and pop her in relatively quickly when we get there. I've had a lot of practice with DD2, but really it only takes a couple tries to get the hang of it. I do make sure neither of us in thick clothing so we don't overheat if we're inside. This morning she was in just a long sleeve onesie and we were both perfectly comfortable doing chores. For outside, a fleece coat one size too big and her hat has been more than enough to keep us comfortable.

She's still a little small for the Mei Tai, especially since she wants her legs out now. I have to cinch the bottom to make it narrow enough for her. And I also can't get her in or out without untying the straps and having them on the ground. Other than that I really like it.

I am thinking about getting a Lillebaby for when she's a little bigger. They seem like the same idea as the Ergobaby, but have a higher weight limit and (most of all) are cheaper.

  • @WildFlower810‌ I've noticed LO gets a little warm sometimes in the Boba so I have been intentionally not dressing him in fleece while using it. Actually he tends to overheat in fleece sometimes as it is (and I'm in Canada!).
  • Another vote for the k'tan. DS2 is at least 12 lbs (I'm going off of clothes and diaper sizes - he hasn't been weighed in going on 3 weeks) and it's a little more snug but still plenty easy to get him in and out. I wear him with his legs out. He doesn't fit with them inside.

The ergo is easier but he isn't quite tall enough to fit in there and look around while he's awake.

  • K'tan. It's my bff!
Quick to put on or off even in the parking lot. Minimal learning curve. MH even enjoys using it! LO is over 11lbs.
I let Noob dangle his legs and he is happy as can be.
  • I like my ergo and bjorn! With the bjorn, there is a little seat you make inside, so it is very comfortable!

  • We have a k'tan, an ergo, and a mei tei. I prefer the K'tan at home as it is easiest to sit down wearing which is a must since I have a 2yr old who needs me to get down and play with him, etc.

we just used the Ergo for the first time last night when we went to see Santa as we don't have the newborn insert so we were waiting till she got bigger. It will be our go to carrier outside the house.

The mei tei I wasn't a fan of with DS till he was older as I felt like it spread his legs too far when he was younger so we will wait to use it with DD as well. It is good for back carrying when LO is older.

@rox825‌ google videos for k'tan newborn carry with legs out... Also if you put the seams in front not in back it gives you a bit extra room. My DD is in the 95th % for height so we very quickly outgrew the kangaroo position.

  • I had the K'tan and returned- I just couldn't figure it out. I have the ergo 360 and the insert but haven't used it yet. Based on this thread I went into target this week to get the Mei Tei, and when got there they had the infantino Classic and forward backward on sale, so I bought all three to try at home. I ended up liking the classic best, it's a softer version of the ergo but without the back strap. For me, I feel most secure with carriers that have clasps, rather than the ones that tie.

So I'm doing okay with the Moby we just got but struggling with keeping me and LO from overheating. In the house that is probably going to mean S2S time. For those concerned about tying a Moby, which was a concern for me, it's much easier than you'd think and I definitely feel like LO is secure. If either of you run hot though you might try a different carrier first.
