Not so good news

in Pregnant after a Loss
So I talked with the nurse at she said my numbers are lower than what they would expect. I went in on Monday afternoon and my hcg level was 538. Thursday morning it was 1076. Now they want me to get tested again on Monday. The nurse just kept repeating that those numbers are low. I told her I was not sure if I was 4 or 5 weeks. It just sucks, more waiting. I just want a US to see what is going on!

    Waiting is awful. Unfortunately an US probably wouldn't be too helpful right now. Hoping those numbers keep going up and up!

    ((hugs)) Beta hell is really hard! This website provides a great calculator to determine your doubling time, which is what I think your nurse is concerned about, instead of the actual levels. I put in 3 PM Monday and 9 AM Thursday as your test times, and got a doubling time of 66 hours.

    You can calculate it to the exact times you went in.

    That's a LITTLE lower than they want it, as ideally it's close to 48 hours, but the normal range goes up to 72 hours, so many doctors probably wouldn't have even told you to be concerned. There are lots and lots of babies born with early betas that didn't double within 48 hours, or even within 72 hours, so you definitely should not give up hope. It's just not an awesome doubling time, if you know what I mean.

    What's your next step? How long do you have to wait for another test or a scan? I hope it's soon!

    ETA: just saw the Monday retest comment, sorry. I hope your weekend flies by!

    Me 34 DH 31, Together since 2003, Married August 20, 2011,  TTC since May 2013
    BFP #1 August 24, 2013! MMC discovered Oct. 3, 2013, D&C Oct. 4, 2013
    BFP #2 December 17, 2013! MMC discovered Jan. 28, 2014, D&C Jan. 30, 2014
    Testing done: male with complete Trisomy 16, not hereditary. Tested me for clotting disorders, all normal.
    Feb. 2014 all clear again to TTC!  Will start progesterone supplementation with the next BFP just in case.       Oct. 2014 more testing just because, thyroid and autoimmune panels = normal.  Diagnostic U/S = no abnormalities.  Will keep trying for 3-6 more months, doctor still optimistic!

    BFP #3 December 11, 2014!  Beta #1 14DPO = 122.4 Beta #2 17DPO = 296.8 Please stick little one and be our Rainbow!

            Perfect little heartbeat of 156 seen 1/7/15 :)

    I'm in a similar beta hell. Mine went from a 539 last Monday to a 942 last Thursday. They wouldn't let me do anymore betas and I'm also going Monday- but for my 6wk ultrasound. I'm really nervous too. FX we both get good news Monday!

    IUD out 8/29/13 and TTC since then.
    BFP 12/29/13
    Bleeding 1/17/14 with LO showing 10 days smaller.
    NMC 1/26/14

    Continued trying every month. Began seeing RE 7/2014.

    12/2/14 got first Rx for Clomid for following cycle.
    12/3/14 BFP!!!
    No heartbeat at 8w4d. D&C scheduled for Jan 7, 14

    I'm new to the board, but I wanted to let you know I will be thinking about you. I have had 4 losses and waiting on beta results can be the most stressful thing. Your numbers do not sound bad. Try to keep your mind off from it if you can! I know that's easier to say than to do, but hopefully you will find out your numbers early tomorrow. Good luck!

    I just got my numbers back and they were 5980. The nurse said that bc they were low before but they are increasing it could be good. They want me to come in for an ultrasound. I thought they would say everything is great if it was over 5000, but what do I know. So the roller coaster continues...

    Given that you don't know how far along you are (sounds like you may at most be in your 5th week?), an u/s should give you more information. I think there would be something to see on the u/s with numbers over 5,000. My RE had said he usually waited to do an u/s until beta was over 2,500, but because I had history of EP, he wanted to see me in my 5th week regardless of the number. My 1st u/s was at 5 weeks, 4 days and my beta was 2,806. All we saw was the sac, which is what we hoped to see at that point. My next beta was 11,401 at 6 weeks, 2 days and we saw the HB for the 1st time that day.

    Edited: keep in mind the doubling time is what matters this early on, not the actual number. Here's a calculator, you can see your recent number doubled well within 48 hours:

    Yes! It sounds like things are increasing well. I would call back and ask to have the doctor call you to explain these "low" number comments. It's your right to get info from a doctor directly. Maybe he/she can put things in perspective and relieve some of your anxiety. Sending hugs!

    So I had my US today and they saw the sac and the egg as well as the pole. Based on the sac they think I am 5 1/2 weeks but according to my last period I should be 6 1/2 weeks. That is why they keep saying the numbers are low. Luckily I tracked my cycle and explained that I am not normal my cycle is 37 days and according to my charting I was in the 5 week range. I have another US next week to see if there is a heartbeat. So the roller coaster continues, but next week we will know! Thanks for all the prayers and support!

    I'm sorry that you're still on a roller coaster ride... waiting on test results and early ultrasounds is the most stressful part of PGAL, in my opinion.  Best wishes for a healthy heartbeat at your next scan!
