1st pregnancy- Followed all no-no’s by the book,
and ate a fully balanced diet.
2nd pregnancy- Ate cold deli meat, and ate more bad-for-you-meals.
3rd pregnancy- Drinking more caffeine, eating
cold deli meat, lifting heavier weights than “allowed” (this 40lb restriction
is crap), have missed taking prenatals a few times.
This is my 2nd. I spent less time in first tri worrying about a m/c. I was pretty liberal last time with sushi and the occasional glass of wine and still am
I am a FTM and I'm more laid back then I thought I would be. I ate a cold turkey sandwich the other day and didn't feel bad, I drink coffee every morning, if I want a Dr. Pepper I have one, my diet is anything but balanced, and I would die without my hot baths.
Married: 9/21/13
TTC #1: 4/1/14
BFP: 9/16/14 (A damn good 1 year anniversary present)
1st pregnancy - zero drinking and tried to follow most of the rules
2nd pregnancy - enjoying my weekly glass of wine after the second tri. Also, weight restrictions went out the window as I have to carry around a toddler now.
With DD, I had no caffeine until 20 weeks. That is really the only difference, compared to this time. I gave up caffeine for about 6 weeks, but since then I've had a cup of coffee every morning. I need it with a toddler.
Pregnant or not, I don't drink soda, or eat sushi. I eat really well as a habit. Both pregnancies I have given up cold deli meat, though.
Since my first I was pregnant almost 22 years ago, and I didn't have all these rules they have now. So I guess you can say I've never followed the rules. I'm very lax when it comes to pregnancy.
id say more lax this time...but really the only difference is i am drinking coffee and / or tea every day. i would say im right at or slightly under the 200mg, (never know for sure). I have eaten deli meat once or twice but dont make a habit of it. I eat soft cheeses like feta and goat cheese but they are pasteurized so i dont think that realyl counts. Still havent had a drink yet. Last pregnancy I waited until about 30 weeks, this time I might have a half glass on christmas. We'll see. I said I was going to have a glass at dinner on sat night but didnt, so just depends on the mood im in.

@Pintobean39- My mother laughed when I was pg with my son when I told her all of the restrictions. She said "Those are the dumbest things I ever heard. I ate TWO cold turkey hoagie sandwiches a day, smoked cigarettes, ate my eggs overeasy and you all turned out just fine!"
First pregnancy I was pretty much by the book, but not over the top crazy about it. I just avoided the things I wasn't "supposed to have". My H is a stickler for the rules, so he "encouraged" me to follow them. I think I colored my hair at some point and probably had a few sips of wine. I heated up lunch meat if I was in a situation where there weren't other options. I'm not a sushi person so that didn't affect me. I wasn't too crazy with calling the OB all the time- I called once for pretty intense BH contrax and once for severe pain higher up in my stomach, and once for a minor car accident.
Second pregnancy I still pretty much "followed all the rules" but was way more lax about the pregnancy itself, still had a lot of BH but I knew what they were/what to do about them, didn't get as panicky for pains, knew what to do if I hadn't felt the baby move for a while etc. I didn't call my OB's office once the whole pregnancy unless it was to make an appt.
Then I had a miscarriage and now this pregnancy, I'm a little more neurotic. Called the OB around 8 weeks for bad cramps, and again when I didn't get my sequential screen blood tests back as quickly as I suspected, etc. I'm still following the food recommendations for what to avoid. I will have a small glass of wine on Christmas and I dyed my hair last week.
How were you with your first pregnancy? Super
cautious/anxious/unsure, etc?
How are you now with your other pregnancy? More lax or the
same as the first one?

Honestly I think a lot of the restrictions are crazy now. Most of them aren't because studies show it causes problems, it's because "what if" something would happen. Yeah so "what if" I get listeria eating a turkey sandwich, well I have a better chance in getting in a wreck when I drive to the grocery store. I'm not going to stop driving because of "what if" I sure as hell am not going to not eat a turkey sandwich. Now the smoking, not going to happen because their are studies.
So yeah I'm one of those, I are turkey sandwiches and drank cokes and had a healthy baby.
@Pintobean39 - I agree with you 100%. They are all just cautionary restrictions...well...most are. I honestly have never known anyone that has actually gotten Listeria. Fact. The caramel apple Listeria outbreak is odd to me because I had no clue something like that would be as strongly affected by it.
I followed all the no-no's last time, and this time I eat deli meat all the time. but generally stick to all the other no-no's.
This time I am WAY healthier and focused on my nutrition.
Last time I ate alot of Fast food and gave into all my cravings, which were usually sugar filled.
This time I'm also going totally all natural in terms of health and beauty products, because since having my daughter I have switched to living a more natural lifestyle. I eat organic as well.
So besides eating deli meat, I'm probably MORE careful this time around.
I got PPD when I returned to work a year after my daughter was born, and basically convinced myself she was autistic (shes not) anyways, during my sleepless nights researching autism, I found out a lot about our food and products which is why we've switched to all natural and organic...
With DD I was VERY by the book. I ate much healthier, drank water like it was my job and was just generally crazy careful. This time I was very care first trimester due to the fact I was freaked out by all the spotting and bleeding I had. But I was still more lax than I was with DD. I've had lunch meat, and hot dogs, and honestly some mornings Mommy needs some hot coco.

~Mama to two daughters and baby #3 coming soon~
This time it's almost like I don't have time to think about being pregnant with my busy toddler.
I've actually shocked myself with how laid back I am both pregnant and as a mom.
