Hey guys! So... I have my 1 hour GTT on monday. My dr. gave me the drink, the instructions say to eat 1 hour before I drink the stuff, go to dr 30 minutes later and let them know so I can have my blood drawn 1 hour after I finish drink. My question is- what the heck am I supposed to eat? I am obviously going to stay away from anything super sugary (no juice, fruit or candy) and try to limit my carbs- but my apt isnt until 145 and that really limits what I can eat all day (and I am usually a super carb eater)
Did anyone's dr's give them a list of okay to eats? Or anyone who passed- what did you eat before.
THANKS!

Re: 1 hr glucose test- what do i eat before?
Eat normally if doc says ok for you to eat. Less carbs, more protein if you wish. At that point, it's up to your pancreas to either process a bunch of sugar efficiently or not which warrants further testing. I didn't have to fast, but crazy morning & didn't eat that day until the glucola drink (which btw: isn't that bad).
The 1 hr is a SCREENING test only; not diagnostic.
If you fail the 1-hour it's common & not a personal failing. All my viable pregnancies I've had to do the three hour screens because my numbers were borderline on the first screens.

I work in a PCP office as a medical assistant/clinical research coordinator. I have done a ton of GTT tests on my patients. Now these patients already have diabetes. The start of the test usually begins with the patient fasting 10-12hrs. I draw a baseline FBS. They drink the glucose solution, then it's either 15, 20,30, or 1 hour later you draw your time points. This tells the doctor how your pancreas is filtering the sugar.
I went for my 1hour GTT last week. I rolled my sleeve up expecting to have a baseline FBS. Nope. She made me drink the solution first wait and hour then drew my blood. I feel getting a FBS at baseline is important. This is after a 10-12 hour fast. If you wake up in the AM and your BS is elevated greater than about 98, then that tells the doctor a lot.
I am surprised that all you guys are eating. What is the point of the glucose solution then?
