C-sections

How many nights is a c section hospit stay?

I think I recall it being 4, is that standard?

Re: How many nights is a c section hospit stay?

  • 3 days 2 nights at my hospital but the OBs there always offer 4 days 3 nights.
  • I had complications and was only in there three nights, one being in the ICU.

I checked in 7am Tuesday morning, had lo via ecs that night.  Checked out at noon on Friday.  So 3 nights.

Eta - I was afraid if I didn't push to get out Friday, they wouldn't discharge me over the weekend and I'd have to stay until Monday.  I don't know where I got that idea.  For this pregnancy, I'm going in for a rcs on a Monday, hoping to go home by Wednesday.

  • I've had two.  For the first, I stayed four nights, though the hospital was trying to release me after three (but I opted not to go because there was a snow storm in progress...).  OB had offered that 4 nights were covered.  This time, insurance apparently covered up to 5 days, but the hospital was looking to discharge me after two nights.  Honestly, I would have stayed a third night, except that their new "baby friendly" policies are not very mother friendly.  I felt I would get more help and better care at home, so I opted to leave and have a lower hospital bill.
  • I stayed 4. My insurance covered 96 hours on hospital stay

  • We stayed 3 days, 2 nights after DS#1 was born. While the nurses were pushing me to leave, the OB kept suggesting I stay another night. Total mixed message.

  • I want out as soon as I can and was told 48 hours after surgery (so two nights) is minimum. That's all I stayed with DD#2 and DD#3 so FX it works that way with DS!!! I HATE staying in the hospital!!!

  • It's generally 4 nights unless there are complications (making you stay longer) or if you're healing well you can get out sooner.  With my twins I stayed the full 4 nights.  With my last delivery I left after 2 nights, my c/s was on a Monday and my OB and I agreed that I would leave Wednesday evening.  Next time I'd like to leave after 1 night.

my planned 2nd C-section was 3 night (I couldn't go home until I could pee and it took that long).

this C-section we are planning on 2 nights... which I HOPE happens because its the difference between coming home on Dec 24th or the 25th.

They said it was up to me sh didn't really see a need to keep me any longer just that most moms like the extra day... I'm not them!!!

  • I went in Monday morning for regular induced birth ended with c section Tuesday and I left Thursday
  • Wow, now I know why my midwife asked if we had exited the hospital with a weapon in hand...

I left after 1 night, 28 hours, which I now know is pretty much unheard of. We got to the hospital shortly after 1pm, he was born at 3:16pm, and we left at about 7pm the next day.

I had planned a homebirth and had to transfer to the hospital after a good home labor because baby had flipped breech on the sly, so I was none to pleased to be in the hospital in the first place. I was mobile a few hours after surgery and bugged everyone who would listen to get me up, feed me more than clear liquid, and get the wires and tubes off me. I guess I planted the "I want to go home" bug in enough ears and the OB discharged me. I would have been tearing my hair out after 4 nights in the hospital.
  • The first time I was induced labored 21 hrs, pushed for 2, and ended up with c-section. I did get a bit of infection (fever etc.- no major complications) so had to stay three more days until that cleared up.

This time my water broke, labored from 6 a.m. till 9 (with yet again 2 hrs pushing), had c-section before 9:30 p.m.. I stayed that night, the next day and was discharged around lunch... so less than 48 hours. They gave me the option of staying one more night or until that night to make it 48 but I was ready. It is next to impossible to sleep in the hospital and I wanted home with my son before he went to his dads for Christmas break.

I think it depends on hospital policy, if you had any complications, how you feel, how baby is doing (if they aren't getting discharged yet they seem to keep ya a lil longer) etc.
