Delivery

I am a fort time mom due in March and I Am really scared about delivery. My spouse is deploying in about a month and my brother is flying to help me drive down to Florida with my family where I will have the baby. I will be about 34 weeks when traveling plus with two dogs. I am worried and worried about going into labor while on the road. Any advise?

  • How far is the drive?  Perhaps you could schedule an appointment with your current doctor for the day before you leave- make sure they think you aren't exhibiting any signs that you may go into labor.  If you go into labor I suppose you would want to just find the nearest hospital.  If you are super concerned maybe consider flying as it will be shorter trip time wise than a drive.
  • I would just try not to worry about it, you most likely will not go into labor while on the road. And stressing about it won't help you or the baby. Good luck and safe travels! :)
  • Have you tried posting on the military board?

My husband is Army, but he's been here for the birth so I can't relate too much. I understand it's a big and scary ordeal though, especially as a FTM. Talk with your doctor to OK you traveling, which will hopefully put you a little more at ease. Also, set up a plan for the birth- some hospitals have rooms that allow you to Skype your husband so he can be a part of it.

    Good luck!
  • I would not worry too much about going into labor on your drive.  I would plan for the just in case by making sure to get a copy of your prenatal medical records from your doctor.  If, in the very unlikely event you do go into labor, you will have them on hand.  Plus, your new doc in Florida will want them anyway.

  • Just drink water while traveling - enough that you have to stop every 2 hr or so to pee. Walk around & stretch a ton at each rest stop. Don't worry about labor - 34 wks is a fine time to travel. It's not like you'll be too far from a hospital while on the interstate in the extremely rare event you start PTL.
  • Oh look, another drive-by who didn't bother to read the responses from the other thread she started.

Not feeding this one either.  FFS.
