Cervix confusion; please respond

Hi, I'm 36 and a half weeks along and last week my doctor said the outside of my cervix is open but the inside isn't? I'm a teen mom to be and really just don't understand what this means. I've had super bad cramps, and pelvic and back pain throughout this week though. I called my doctor to try to get seen early to be on the safe side but he can't fit me in Til Thursday so I was just wondering if anyone could give me some insight to help calm my confusion and nerves in the meantime. Thank you so much in advance.

But I would think everything will be alright. If doc isn't worried or rushing you in, there's no reason to get yourself freaked out.

Call the office and ask the doctors nurse. You don't have to make an appointment to ask them a question

Never be afraid to ask questions at your appt. And ask your Dr. To explain things. I'm 30, 4th time mom and I still have to ask questions, and if they say something that sounds like gibberish to me I ask them to explain it in words I can understand.

Well, this lecture from an internet stranger has completely changed my perspective on the tone of the community that we have worked for 8ish months to create. I will now answer all questions with patience of a saint and a medical degree only google can provide.

I would think she was curious and wanted to get opinions from other moms to be. She clearly stated she would be speaking with her doctor about it as well. If I'm correct, everything posted here is to a "board of strangers"? It certainly didn't seem as though she was asking to be spoken down to.

Here's what I know: your cervix is a certain length before you begin to dilate and efface (mine is 1cm right now and I'm 50% effaced/thinned out). Until you are 100% effaced there is a top and bottom to your cervix. Picture a cylinder or tube. The top part of your cervix(furthest away from your vaginal opening) is where your babies head is. The bottom, is the entrance to that tube or cylinder, closest to your vaginal opening. Your doctor was saying that the bottom of this tube has started to open (picture a funnel). So the top, where babies head is, is still closed, but the bottom has started to open.

I think phrasing something in a way that's more understanding and less judgemental about her asking a question wouldn't have hurt anyone or been any more difficult to type. She asked a question, and was told "to go ask a doctor, not a board of strangers"...

Never be afraid to ask your doctor to clarify what he means while you're there. I promise, even as a 32 year old second time mom, I still ask a lot of questions. Sometimes doctors forget that we don't speak their language every day, so they may say something that makes total sense to them but that can be confusing to us. You can also call and talk to the nurse at the office anytime--they would be able to explain what the doctor meant as well.

Guys, I'm only 17, I've never dealt with any of this before and I even pointed out in my post that when I called the doctor they said they couldn't get me in until later on. I asked the "board of strangers" because I was looking to see if someone could shed some light on the subject and help ease my nerves until my doctor could see me. I didn't know adults would comment so rudely when I explained completely that I had already called the doctor.... Guess I just won't ask anything anymore.... Sorry for causing problems? And thank you to those of you who were kind and understanding. I truly appreciate it.

You were given many helpful pieces of advice. We did shed light and try to ease. I know I specifically said not to worry about it because your doctor wasn't worried or rushing you in.

Obviously at this point you've seen him? You said Thursday? Hope you asked then and got it explained in ways you understand.

I had to stop reading all those nasty hateful comments, I only made it to where I saw ur post saying u weren't gonna ask questions anymore. I'm 30 and this is my 1st pregnancy also. I've never posted anything on here and now that I see the type of idiots that respond I wouldn't want their advice anyway! I'm glad 4 the few ladies who actually gave u some insight on ur question. it makes no sense 2 me y so many "adults"make unnecessary comments?! can we say"no life!" good luck with everything hun and I apologize 4 the immature bitches who obv hav nothing better 2 do than try and hurt a teenagers feelings 4 asking a question. I had no idea either but thx to the lady who explained it! try the "baby bump app" even tho there are immature idiots on all forums ive nevr seen anything as sad as the retarded bitches on this app. yea u bitches did get my panties in a wad.go talk shit n post ur dumb lil videos about it. u oughta be ashamed of urselves n I feel sorry 4 ur babies! @samantha30105‌ no harm in asking a question...like most of us we go to this board infrequently when we are bored or need advice. Some of the ladies on here who frequent the site treat new members or those not like minded very rudely so do not apologize for asking there are some of us on here who would love to help and support you. I actually recommend other baby apps because some of these ladies on here will make me rip them another butt hole....this is a forum for us to relate and respond. There are women in here who actually count how many times you respond and interact.

To be fair, you asked a really weird question about being induced at 34 weeks? With no background, how was anyone supposed to understand you? They don't induce at 34 weeks unless there are major medical issues, and if that is the case you did not make that known.
