Is D-chiro-inositol a miracle?

Anyone taken it?

According to the medical studies nineteen of the 22 women who received D-chiro-inositol ovulated, as compared with 6 of the 22 women in the placebo group.  https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10219066  The supliment is readily available, cheap (mine was like $10 for 100 servings) and has no known side effects.

I've gotten some from the healthfood store that is a powder that you just mix a half teaspoonful a day into water or any other drink, but if its so effective I'm wondering why its not more widely known. The study is small, but from a  reputable source, and I am a little suprised that more research hasn't been done on it.

Anyone have any info?

  • That sounds really interesting...I may have to look into that since I'm having O issues myself.  Let me know if you find out anymore info!
  • I have not heard of this either and why not. I'm going to bring it up to my RE at my next appointment on the 16th.

You said you got some form a healthfood store .... has it worked for you, or did you just get it?

With PCOS OPK''s don't work for me, so it's always hard for me to tell if a new med is working.

    Thanks for posting this ...

  • I just got it yesterday and started taking it today. The powder looks a little like powdered sugar- very fine and light, and I mixed it with Crystalight and didn't taste a thing.

So far so good- I'll let you know if I find out anything more on it!

  • I have a friend with pcos who is now pg after participating in a clinical trial. She is going to find out what they gave her, I wonder if it is the same thing?
  • This sounds too good to be true! Please keep us posted if you hear or find anything else... I may be looking it up tomorrow!
  • I finally found a recent follow-up study!

    https://tinyurl.com/7tqc9t

This was done in Sept. of 2007 and was a much larger study (92 vs. 22) the results were not quite as dramatic, but still statisticly significant. 25% of anovulatory women ovulated on the suppliment as opposed to only 15% of the control group.

But this study found an added benefit of a earlier ovulation and shorter cycles, 18 and 31 days compared with 27 and 54 days.

The more I read up the better and better this sounds...
