Re: What do you call it?

  • Dressing, served in a dish separate from the protein.  No nuts, raisins, oysters or weird stuff.
  • SS we call it filling

  • Stuffing.

I've never heard anyone call it dressing before

Stuffing. And it normally comes out of a box. I've had it homemade once, and the only things that were in it are in the boxed version.

    Always call it stuffing.

This is the one I made for Thanksgiving: https://allrecipes.com/recipe/stuffing-recipe/detail.aspx . It came out great and wasn't as much work as it looked :) (I did use a rice cooker for cooking the wild rice and followed the directions on the package for the rice.)

  • I call it both and usually in the wrong context only to be corrected by any one of the knowitalls in my family.

    So true. Lol.

I call it stuffing most of the time.
My mom only called it stuffing if it was cooked in the bird and had turkey meat in it.
If it didn't have turkey meat it was dressing.

MIL calls it stuffing, but it's never in the bird and has no meat in it, just bread and seasoning.

I have had dishes so filled with nuts, rice and other stuff that I wouldn't even call them stuffing OR dressing. Those must have another name.
