  • Why can't you take your prescription?

I'd die without mine and I still have terrible reflux.

  • I kid you not, I've just got back from my SO Christmas party and one of his employees who's 4ft 6 told me that she had acid reflux for the last 6 months of her pregnancy and the only thing that gave her tempoary relief was drinking double cream! She drank a couple of pints a day and gained 5 and a half stone!!!! It's taken her 3 years to get back to her pre pregnancy weight. Whaaaaaaat! I love the things people share once they know your in the "mum club" too!
  • I popped Tums like Tic Tacs my first pregnancy. Sorry you're going through this so early - mine started later on last time.
  • I too am curious why you can't take your prescription omeprazole? I was taking it before pregnancy but stopped and my midwife actually rewrote me a prescription for it last time because tums was just like candy and she was worried about too much calcium.

  • My doctor told me mylanta, tums, or Pepcid. Welllll none of them did anything for me. Minty ice cream and making sure I was sitting up for at least an hour after eating has helped. Also, propping myself up at night has helped, too. Ugh, throwing up from acid reflux is the absolute worst!

Omeprazole is a class C medication, which means that there isn't any research available on how it affects pregnant women. My OB didn't tell me to stop taking it, but he made some suggestions for alternatives that were less risky. DH is a pharmaceutical chemist and agreed that I stick to class B or higher. I'm probably just being overly cautious, but the Zantac works fine in the meantime (it's a class B drug), so I'm content. If it didn't work, I'd be back to the Omeprazole.

I normally take a bunch of tums but they weren't helping the other day so my SO brought me vanilla frozen yogurt. Worked for a while. The relief was nice.

Double cream is like really thick whipping cream (and a gazzillion calories) you normally whisk it up and put it on top of cakes/trifles. And 5.7 stone is the equivilent to 36kg. Basically its like she was drinking actual fat. Absolutely crazy! She gave birth early and the baby was only 5lb. It's a healthy 3yr old now tho and she's finally lost the weight.
  • Root beer is literally the only thing that is working for me.
  • I'm on prescription pantoprazole which is also class C. My drs just (accurately) figured that taking me off of it would be more detrimental than switching me to something - and I did have to switch to regular omeprazole when my insurance messed up my prescription and I did feel my absolute worst. I don't feel badly about staying on it because I'm not in complete misery daily, you know? To each their own, though.

  • Apple cider vinegar in water. It helps with digestion in general. I would put two teaspoons in 8 ounces of water and drink it in the am.

  • I take prilosec, which is okay to take in your second trimester. I feel like a normal person again!
  • Doctors said my Prevacid can harm the baby. So I'm not willing to risk it. I've been taking tums and Zantac but it only works 1/2 the time
