Questions for the girls who've been there done that:
- How did you do it? Did you stop nursing/pumping cold turkey or take a slower approach?
- How uncomfortable is it?
- How long did it take for the milk to totally dry up?
- Did you become a ragey hormonal bitch and, if so, for how long?
- Any other tips/tricks you want to share?
Thanks
Re: Weaning Questions
It was not uncomfortable for me, again my supply was down to 3 oz a day.
I have not pumped or BF for over a month, oddly enough I can still pinch milk out, not to sure what that is about.
I think my hormones did play a small part, for me I think that I wasn't ready to quit, I was kinda deperessed. I feel that perhaps even though I was sad, hormones made me deperessed about it.
I wonder if the best bet would be to just decease pumping time and get to the point where you quit when you get your period (if you do). My supply tanked when I got mine so I wonder if a natural decrease of supply would make ingorgrment more tolerable. GL
With C I had been EPing with a double electric hospital grade, so I had to wean more slowly. Started by cutting each pump down in time, then gradually cut out a pump at a time (so if I used to pump at 9, 12, and 3, I started pumping at 10 and 2 and dropped the middle one). That time I did notice a severe hormonal reaction and was depressed for about two weeks. No leaking, but for a while after both I could pinch a bit out in the shower. That's totally normal, some woman take years to fully dry up. With both of mine it was a month or two.
