Tips, tricks, and unsolicited advice

Ladies! My little sister just found out she's prego! I have her for Christmas exchange this year and wanted to put together a booklet of tips, tricks and unsolicited advice, to be both helpful and humorous, so let's have them! Anything from the second trimester through the birthing process to raising an infant! TIA

Re: Tips, tricks, and unsolicited advice

  • one of those wine glasses that fits a whole bottle of wine, for the raising an infant part.

I would also give a huge pack of overnight pads, does she like candy? I would include some sort of treat/snack, inkpad kit for footprints when the baby is born (or if she is like me when the baby is 8 months, oops) hmmm what else....

actually just realized you said booklet and not actual products

I would advise her to buy all of the things I listed lol.

Sleep when the baby sleeps. Ha!

Enjoy a clean house while you can. Find some comfy sweat/yoga pants to LIVE in.

If breastfeeding, have breastshells (not shields, the soft shells) and lanolin ready!

Eta - congrats to your sister and family!

  • Have lots of breast pads and different kinds of nipple cream. I made the mistake of only having lanolin and hated it.
  • Take all of the mesh panties from the hospital you can carry! Not to mention everything else they have for you and baby!
  • Find some good shows on Netflix...nursing sessions are long, and plentiful.

Everything is worth it once LO is here, the morning sickness, back pain, constipation, tearing, sore nipples...all of it.

Meal prep...I didn't do this...I thought April, grilling season, just meat and veggies.. yeah more like Chipotle, pizza and Chinese cause this bitch didn't wanna cook or go to the store. DH was exhausted too. If I had stuff in the freezer, I would have just popped it in the oven or crockpot.

Buy a good waterbottle...you need to stay hydrated nursing, and it's super easy to for get to eat/take care of yourself.

Shower daily...it's rough but it will seriously make you feel a little better about life.

Laundry...it gets washed, whether or not it get put away...ehh

Yoga pants, leggings and comfy shirts (I bought a ton at VS pink and yoga tees.

Buy comfy nursing bras, they make nursing easier.

And lastly, I have tons more, but don't stay in your house for a month, get outaide, go to Target, or Starbucks baby will survive and you'll remain sane. (Just time it right with nursing, etc)
  • As long as it's going in one end, and coming out the other, you're doing it right.
  • The first few weeks of breastfeeding, when the baby latches on slowly count to 10. It's going to hurt, but by the time you get to 10 it should be better. I read that on this board and it's the reason I could breastfeed DS2. DS1 the pain felt like it was lasting forever, DS2 I knew I just had to get to 10.
