This is my first discussion board. This may seem like a silly question but my husband and I have been TTC for over a year now. He is a firefighter and works 48 hour shifts. This makes it more challenging. We have been using opk tests and making sure to bd on the day of lh peak and the few days after. No luck. I don't get my lh surge until day 15, 16 or 17 and I have a 27-29 day cycle. When paying attention to my body I think I am ovulating a day or two before the opk gives me a positive. I even had a pink hue in my cm (day 14) two days before I got a positive opk (day 16). Is it possible my LH protein doesn't show up on tests until days after it occurs? This month we bd on the days I had signs from my body I was about to ovulate instead of the test. Fingers crossed!
It's possible to get a little ovulation spotting before, during, or after O. It's also possible for the LH surge to make an OPK positive before, during, or after the surge. Temping sounds like the next step for you if you wish to confirm O and timing.
However, since it's been a year of trying, the reality is that 85% of women who will get pregnant naturally will have gotten pregnant, especially since you've been hitting a lot of days around O. So that's why it's medically recommended that this is a good point to see a fertility specialist for a full workup. Make sure not to just see an OB who will stop testing the moment one possible cause is found and treat you for it (perhaps dangerously) - work with an RE who will make sure everything is in working order before giving you carefully selected treatment.
It's smart to BD regularly (every 1-3 days) throughout much of the (mid-) cycle to keep sperm fresh and happy and make sure they are waiting for O. I used to fret over the exact day and hour, but the reality is if someone hasn't gotten pregnant naturally from reasonably timing and regular intercourse for a year, there is a good chance that a doctor's help will make a big difference for you.
January 3T Siggy Challenge - New Year's Resolutions
Me (29), DH (30) TTC actively 54 55+ cycles | All BFNs
Thank you all for the advice I really appreciate it. We decided if it didn't happen this cycle we would start testing January, nice start to a new year :-( My doctor already referred me to a specialist and set us up for the first round of tests. Keeping our thoughts positive. I will try out fertility friend and get a good BBT. I was hesitant bc remembering to take my temp each morning seemed unrealistic, but it's worth a shot! How soon after AF stops before you start temping?
