Bending over/laying on tummy

edited December 2014 in June 2015 Moms
Hello my fellow Mommies/Mom to be's!

I was having worries last night when I caught myself laying on my stomach. I was worried I would squish my baby or make his/her a funny shape! I try not to lay on my tummy, buy I wake up sometimes like that. I am only 15 going on 16 weeks. Also, I am already having uncomfortable time bending down to get things at work and off the floor. I was just wondering if any of you other mom's have the same fears and troubles this early! My coworkers giggle with me and I think my baby was made at me earlier as I do not think I got up correctly and had this odd feeling that someone was angry with me and I haven't even felt the baby move yet.

anyone else get that feeling when bending down or catch yourself laying on your stomach?

  • I just have to laugh, it is the silliest things I find myself worrying about! Though when I bent over and then got up oddly, that feeling was a very unhappy one that I was receiving, I honestly think baby was unhappy! haha ;]  I plan on laying on my stomach until I cannot, I hope anyway....

  • I lay on my tummy to read on the bed or watch netflix on the ipad so it hasn't gotten uncomfortable yet.  Baby is very well protected and eventually it will be uncomfortable for you so enjoy it while you can :)

  • I'm a belly sleeper, too. I missed it SO much my last pregnancy so I'm living it up while its still comfortable. You won't crush your baby.

  • At 14 weeks last time, I couldn't sleep on my belly, because it was just slightly too uncomfortable.  First time I felt him move was the last time I laid on my belly during the day.

YES. I was laying in bed this morning (on my stomach) thinking the exact same thing.

  • I agree with PP - you will know when you can't lay on your belly anymore because it will get uncomfortable, until then enjoy it!! I'm feeling huge already lol and haven't been able to sleep comfortably on my belly for weeks.

As far as squishing the baby, you don't have to worry about that :)

  • I'm a stomach sleeper too! But I sort of lay with my leg up on a body pillow, so I'm tilted and propped up a little. It's not uncomfortable yet, but when I lay on my stomach on the floor or couch, it's not comfy.
  • Enjoy sleeping on your stomach and bending over normally while you can. Baby is fine.
It's already too uncomfortable for me and it's a pain in the butt.

  • I'm 15 weeks and LOVE laying on my stomach to sleep. Unfortunately it is getting rather uncomfortable, even though I sleep with a leg up so I'm tilted. I'm hoping for a body pillow for Christmas from DH as I have been not-so-subtly hinting that I may need one soon.
  • 14w5d here, and still stomach sleeping! Like PP's, I'm living it up while I can!

  • I used to sleep on my stomach all the time – even in the beginning of the pregnancy. Then somewhere between 14-16 weeks I just stopped. Not consciously, it just wasn't comfortable anymore. Now I occasionally sleep on my back, but mostly on my side. I wouldn't worry about it! I imagine you'll stop on your own once it's not comfortable.
  • I think I read somewhere that to injure the baby, you'd have to have a blow that was bad enough to injure YOU. (It was in reference to a fall, but I would think that still holds). They're well padded in there.

I'm still doing the modified leg-out belly sleeping. It's been uncomfortable to sleep straight on my stomach since the blump appeared, but if I'm tilted a bit it's all good. My mom said she was also a stomach sleeper until her belly got big enough that she would basically just fall over if she actually tried to sleep that way. Like a weeble.

  • I'm all for stomach sleeping while you can! I was worried about it but dr told me I can sleep however is comfortable, even on my back (baby's not big enough yet to put enough pressure and restrict blood flow from uterus). I'm at 16w6days and sleep flat on my belly or prop my leg on a body pillow. Bending down too far is a little uncomfortable. And the only bad feelings I get from standing up too fast is a head rush and/or ligament pain lol. No worries about harming baby! Remember, women have been doing this since the Stone Age with no advice then ;)
