NTTCALR: What are you drinking at New Year's?

CD1 should come sometime between Christmas and New Year's, so I'll have lots to drink to at New Year's.  Give me some good ideas for yummy drinks!

My favorite is Long Island ice tea and margaritas.  I usually don't like anything with Rum in it.

Also, any recommendations for sweet red wines?

  • I am still trying to think of something festive for DW and I to sip on while we spend a nice evening together at home.  We both love wine but I am hoping to change it up a little with some sort of spiced sangria.

Eww, sangria sounds like a different, creative idea!

  • @sdfonz619- Spiced sangria sounds amazing!

I will probably be drinking champagne for a midnight toast.  Other than that my go to drink is white wine so I will probably down a bottle for the special occasion.

I am not sure how to say this without getting a "solicitation" warning so I guess I just say that I am not longer active on THIS site.

  • I made a St Germain cocktail similar to this a few years ago and it was delicious!

    That looks amazing!

  • I found the best recipe at a local restaurant- I don't have measurements (I usually eyeball anyway) and although it is holiday themed it still seems delicious. "Christmas Morning" martini: vodka, cranberry juice, grapefruit bitters, a little lemon juice. Get. In. My. Mouth.

I also found the best recipe for lemoncello that I made a few years back; take the zest of about a pound of lemons and put it a handle of vodka; store at room temp in a dark space for at least two weeks. Once that time has passed, make a small batch of simple syrup and combine, straining the lemon rinds out. Getting the skins off the lemon sucks in the moment but god damn does it pay off.

  • Coquito!  My husband just came back from Puerto Rico, so he is all about recreating a drink from there.  It's like eggnog, but with coconut milk.
I plan on getting completely smashed on the stuff.
Also we still have some pumpkin pie spice wine cider leftover from Thanksgiving that he made, so that will probably get drunk as well.
    And maaaaybe some butterbeer too.
Oh, I'm not holding back this new year's.

  • My response when seeing the thread title was everything. Then, I thought about that response and now say 'too much.' It may be:

    a) vodka sprite

    b) rum and coke

    c) fireball shots

    d) all of the above!

Also, I do plan on making some gummies or rummies to take to the party!

  • I don't knooow. I wanna go out so bad. H and I skipped our anniversary celebration in anticipation of going to the casino, but then they announced that its just a concert this year. I'm sorry but I'm not paying $140 to go to the concert of a band I don't even know. We might just go to a club or something. I'm working until 9, but that's still plenty of time to get my drink on.

  • MH brought home some fancy red wine from Italy that's he's been saving for a "special occasion". I think New Years is the perfect occasion, especially since he proposed on New Years. If he has something he's secretly planning for it, I'll probably pick up a bottle of my favorite cupcake vineyards wine.
