Any help with a random diaper rash??

I know ladies have asked help multiple times about diaper rashes. And normally DD doesn't get them (we CD, she only gets a rash if we use disposables for more than a day). If she ever does get a rash it usually goes away within a day or two of using our CD. I haven't changed our wash routine for her diapers or anything else like the wipes solution and we have the same coconut oil we always use. It started out as a normal looking diaper rash but it's not in a normal spot around the bum. It's on her front right around the pubic bone. The general redness went away but there are still 4 or 5 red marks. They're little red dots (like someone took a red marker and put dots on her) and hardly raised.
I've tried everything I can think of... Back to disposables (which she just ends up getting a normal diaper rash on her bum after a few days). Some air time without a cover on. I thought maybe a food allergy, but she hasn't had anything new lately. Anyone have any ideas? If it doesn't go away shortly I'm gonna call her pedi, but it doesn't seem to be bothering her much.
Thanks!! (XP to CD board)

  • I do a layer of lotrimin (jock itch cream for yeast), a layer of butt paste, and a layer of aquaphor to seal it all in and protect it from wetness, and it works like a charm in a couple days!

  • I had something similar with DS (we use cloth too) and figured out that I had detergent buildup on the dipes. After I ran them through lots of extra wash cycles he cleared up. It was the red dots in the front. The only thing I can figure is that I got a little lazy with detergent amount. I didn't think I had changed my wash routine, but looking back I had obviously increased it without realizing.

  • Oh... And second the aquaphor. I greased him up before bed for a few nights and used disposables.

  • We mixed maalox, zinc, and aquaphor. Then a layer or lotrimin in the am and before bed before applying the mixture.

  • I'm lazy. I mix clotrimazole wroth aquaphor and put it in the spots.

But like someone else said. Sounds like yeast. Keep it dry too.

  • Aquaphor with disposables has worked wonders for us.

I am also curious if its a detergent build up because of the area you are describing, more friction there with the diaper and clothing?

  • Thanks ladies!! Now that you all said that it could be the dipes rubbing or something I'm thinking it could be that. And I think I'll run our dipes through a bunch of rinse cycles just in case. We did have to switch to the old top loading washer thats in the basement (our front loading washer's water pump quit, thank god FIL knew how to fix it!!!). Could've been some build up since I need to use different amounts of detergent for the washers. I'll try some of what you ladies said to put on her and use disposables for a little bit.
Just thought it was weird cause I've never seen a rash in the front area alone. Always saw around the bum and whatnot. You ladies are great!!!!

  • We battled a terrible diaper rash for over a week- it got so terrible that it was weeping fluid and just grtting worse with every home remedy I did. My friend works for a deratoligist and they said to mix A&D (1 tube), desitin (1 tube), mylanta 2TBSP original flavor) and corn starch 2TBSP. Mix all of them together and use with each diaper change. Over night the diaper rash was cleared. I will never try anything else!
