Pregnant after a Loss

Second and third trimester discussion, a day late (dollar short)

Sorry ladies. My H usually works from home WThF and he was home yesterday so I am all sorts of confused about what day of the week it is. I also know not to end my sentences with prepositions, but I'm a rebel. Talk amongst yourselves about 2nd and 3rd trimester things. Go!

Pregnancy Ticker

Re: Second and third trimester discussion, a day late (dollar short)

  • Holy exhaustion! Also, heartburn  and Braxton hicks! I'm so behind on Christmas gifts, and can't seem to get caught up...

So, sometimes I have more than 4 BP in an hour, but I've never had them continue that often past 1 hour. They're never regular  - 15minutes, 12 minutes, etc - and they don't increase in intensity. I haven't had any change in dishcharge, so I haven't called in to my ob yet. I see her again on Thursday and will mention it then. Should I ask for any specific testing or anything? I didn't have BP until 38 weeks with my 1st and not at all with my 2nd, so this is new territory for me. Also, LO is still very active.

:::lurking::: I'm up with a LO that doesn't want to sleep unless I am holding her so I'm luking about ;)

If they aren't changing in intensity then you're right, they are probably just BH. But, Id still bring it up to the ob on Thursday. In the meantime, keep an eye on them and if/when it happens again see if they stop with changing positions (if you are standing/walking lay down and vice versa) or if you drink a big glass of ice water. They told us in our birthing class that if we were preterm and either of those things dont make the ctxns stop, to call the ob just in case. I'm mobile right now so I can't see exactly how far along you are.

  • What do BH feel like to all y'all? I get this heavy feeling low in my abdomen like someone put a brick inside there. My OB says that is BH but... I though BH would be more... Crampy? Or like a tightness that comes and fades? The feeling i get is it just feel super heavy. Stays for a while (anywhere from 5-15 minutes) then just goes away. Is that normal? It doesn't hurt, just uncomfortable.

    ALL WELCOME!

  • @MoreThanSparrows08‌ - I get BHs all day long. My OB says to call if they are more than 6 per hour and last more than 2 hours. I have been lectured for not calling several times already. I just can't bring myself to take a trip to L&D in the middle of the night when they are not progressing (especially since I have a sleeping toddler at home). I usually try a warm shower, get on my left side or drink a bottle or 2 of water to try and calm them down.

@BackstreetPixie‌ - When I have BH my entire ute gets very tight. I can actually see it get tight when it happens. It is uncomfortable, but not really painful.

Is there anything I can do to lower my blood pressure? Relieve these headaches?

I've been feeling exactly what you described. I never thought it was BH. Interesting. It happens when I exercise, I've noticed. Also, I have an AW! I started feeling the baby kick on Sunday night and then last night she was kicking so much that DH could feel her, too. It was amazing.
I'm so glad you said this, I've been feeling it too but I thought for sure it was too early and I would sound silly!  Yay for feeling the baby kick!!!  I was lucky to start feeling it on the early side at 18 weeks and it is literally my favorite thing ever.   :x
Add me to this club! I wasn't sure if it was BH or not, especially as I just felt it low, not throughout my abdomen.

    Yay for feeling kicks @MegDowntheShore!

@Dragonfly1809 - Sorry about the headaches and high BP! Only things I know for the BP are to eat healthfully and watch salt intake. For the headaches, I've found that a lot of water and a tiny bit of caffeine help, but my headaches might have a different source than yours, so those may not be a good idea at all. :-/

I have a question that may be best posed to BTDT moms: assuming a normal, healthy birth, when do we want the grandmothers to come visit? Both have said they'd like to come soon, especially my mom, as this is her first grandbaby. If she had her way she'd probably just move in as soon as I got close. She's generally helpful, but does have her own ideas and can be annoyingly passive aggressive about them. Should I tell her to come within a day or two post birth to help out? Or should I tell her to wait a week or two for us to get our bearings? We haven't lived in our city long, so we don't have an extensive support network in town.

  • I'm freaking myself out over the fact that I've gained 10 lbs in the last month. (from 24 weeks to now, almost 28 weeks). I don't see my OB until Jan 2, so I just have to hope that the gain slows down. Any thoughts, ladies? I've gained 28 lbs already this pregnancy, and I'm just over 27 weeks along. I feel like this is WAY too much. Is it possible that, like 6 lbs of that is due to constipation? (I highly doubt it, but a girl can hope, right?!)
  • @E&B0811 They go away if I move or change positions, which is very reassuring.  I live 45 minutes from my doc and the hospital I will be delivering at, so I really don't want to travel that far for nothing.  I also have two boys sleeping at home that I don't want to wake unless absolutely necessary. If they didn't go away or were increasing, or baby wasn't moving as much, or other things, I would certainly not hesitate to make the trip.

@pblge I never had anyone come stay with us after the boys, but I would ask them to wait a week or so, and if you decide you need her help sooner rather than later, you can let her know then.  I would hate to have her come too soon and be annoying when I really just want to bond with my child and get the hang of everything.  If you plan on breastfeeding, you'll want time to figure that out, and with a grandmother in the house, she'll likely be giving all sorts of unsolicited advice regarding how that should be done.  If you find, a few days in, you could really use an extra set of hands, just give them a call and ask if either of them is able to come sooner than planned.  I'm sure they won't mind.

I had a month like that in October where I gained nine pounds and felt awful about it. And my OB fat shamed me about it. My eating habits hadn't changed much (maybe a bit more Halloween candy) but the next month I had only gained two pounds. My fundal measurement shot up like 7cm intra of 4cms that month, too. I would try not to stress about it. I figure I am just gaining weight in a funny way.

  • I started getting some pretty intense headaches yesterday afternoon so I went to CVS on my way home and quickly checked my BP - it was reading 130/77 which isn't too high but since I normally average 100/60, I was a little nervous about it.  No headaches today so I'm hoping it was just a fluke of a day.

I definitely feel and look pregnant when I get up from my chair now - everything aches a little tiny bit all at once.

  • Wow thanks y'all! I Feel a lot better about the BH now. =)

@dragonfly1809‌ I get the headaches too. What helps me is tylenol and a glass of sweet tea. I only take the tylenol when it is really bad. Usually the sweet tea works if i catch it early. Something about a little caffeine and a little sugar.

@mandi195‌ could you be gaining water weight? A lot of women gain a lot of water weight while pregnant. My mom did. Do you have swelling around your hands and feet? If so prop those feet up for a while now and then during the day. Also like others have said, maybe the next month you won't gain as much and it will even out. Talk to your doc about it. Hopefully it is nothing to worry about. =)

  • Thanks ladies! I called my OB's office and talked to the nurse, and she said since my gain so for (up to my last appt) was right on track that she isn't too worried yet. She said to keep an eye on it, and we'll see where I'm at when I have my next appt in 2 weeks. I'm hoping it's just a growth spurt and some water weight; and maybe a little more due to constipation. I just got nervous since little lady was measuring a little big (85th percentile) at my last visit. Thanks again!
  • So irritated by TB; the stupid pregnancy countdown thing doesn't allow you to go overdue, so I get the alert that it's 364 days until my baby's 1-yr birthday. Umm... no, I still have an inside baby thank you very much! Sigh! I've been doing my tea, my birthing ball, membranes swept twice, MP gone, sex a couple times a week, nipple stim... and still nothing that progresses. Just constant random contractions all day and night. 3+ weeks of this and I'm over it! Vent over.

My MIL just sent us her Christmas wish list and top on it was "an invitation to visit".... we want to hold off as long as possible, but it's becoming clear we're going to have to deal with this eventually. I'm following for others responses to this one :)

I am really conflicted about this. We had no over night visitors with my son. This time my MIL is coming about 6 weeks after baby is born. I feel like having a visitor in the beginning might be easier since you have no routine set up. The baby is like a sleeping potato for the first few weeks and I remember just sitting around a lot, which was good since I had a c-section. Once we got on a schedule I wouldn't want someone interrupting that. It might be better, also, to have help while you heal. That's just me though. I'm a big believer in setting boundaries and wearing my mamabitch hat if necessary.

  • @mandi195 I did the exact same thing - between 24 and 28 weeks, I gained 10 pounds! I was so upset! But I haven't had another jump like that yet, so hoping it was just a fluke thing!  If it makes you feel any better, I gained more than 40 pounds with my first, so 28 is nothing!

@haleyusf I was 4 days overdue with my first... I didn't try a whole lot except TONS of walking.  The thing that seems to have been the catalyst was an orgasm.  Obviously if you've lost your mucus plug, (or if your doc put you on pelvic rest, etc.) there shouldn't be any penetration but a vibrator might do the trick ;)  Sending labor vibes your way so you can finally meet your beautiful baby!

I explained to him that docotor said 200mg of coffee is okay. I think his stupid ass co-workers got into his head. I never had more than 1 cup in the morning (with milk)....but he made me feel guilty so I'm trying to quit coffee.

Sorry. This said it had an error posting so I AWed on the main page. I hate mobile bumping.
this isn't really pregnancy related, but I'm no good at AWing on the main page so I figured I would write it here. I was going to get my free prenatal Rx filled at Meijer's last week when I was pulled over. A police officer ran my plate and said one of the registered owners had an expired driver's license. It was me! Apparently my license expired on my birthday two months ago and I never did anything about it. Also, I didn't have a current insurance card on me.

So I was arrested. He came up to my car and said, I'm not going to tow you, but you have to go to the station. I said, what do I do with my son? He said, I didn't realize you had a child in the car. We'll have another officer drive him to the station. I will make sure your son doesn't see you get handcuffed.

That's when I lost it and started ugly crying. He said, it's no big deal. Don't get all worked up. I said, I'm seven and a half months pregnant, I can't help it. He said, you're pregnant? His powers of observation were somewhat lacking in my opinion. He didn't handcuff me though.

I had to go to the station and pay 200 bond and bring my son's car seat and it was a pain in the ass. It is pretty low on my proudest moments of being a mom list. I'm 37 and this was my first arrest. I decided to be super nice to the officer because even though he most likely had some discretion, he was just doing his job. It was raining/sleeting and as I was getting into his police SUV, I said to him (mostly just to make him feel bad) I'm sorry this is taking me a while -- not only am I really pregnant, but I also only have one leg and I am super scared of falling.

I don't know if he cared in any way, but it made me feel better. @tlc35 I realize how awful and scary going to the DMV must be for you, but please go get your smog checked and address updated.
